UV777BK or RG1527

Need opintion, I have been playing a UV7PWH since 92, its got allot of ware and tare as you could imagine and I am looking to retire it. I had my eye set on a RG1527 as everything I've read on them seems they are a really sweet seven string guitars, only complaint would be the pickups. I had planed on changing them to the new seven string version of the Seymore blackouts. Long story short, I'm selling a Washburn N4 padauk on crags list explaining that I love the guitar just couldnt get used to it being I've played a Univers for 15+ years and never really felt 100% comfortable on it. Last week a guy emails me offering me a UV777BK for 800$. I email him back for pics and the serial number. The pics look good and he's only one hour away from me. The serial is F9949042. From what I've read thats a 99. Also from what I've read and this is where I need the opintion, Universies from 98 to 2006 are not all that good. Also, should I just go for the RG1527 in steed?

Thanks for the advice.

I'd go for the UV. I'm not sure about the market value of them in the States as I'm from the other side of the pond but $800 seems like a good price to me.

Re: UV777BK or RG1527

Everybody here will tell you to buy a UV, because they love Steve Vai Personally, I'd also buy a UV IF I HAD A LOT OF MONEY. I don't have too much money, so I'm saving for an RG1527 or a Schecter. I don't like signature models (UVs are Vai's guitars, not mine ).
But $800 seems like a good price. Just make sure it's in good condition.

Anyway, they're both amazing guitars. You will be more than satisfied with any of them.

Re: UV777BK or RG1527

I've had a few 1527s, a few 7620's, and a few UVs as well. If I had 800 to spend I'd get the UV, but that's just me. They are all fine instruments. I've seen a number of $800 UVs lately, so they are around. The '98 to '06 UVs are fine, not sure where that is coming from.

Of course if you want to go maple, the 1527M has that board and the UVs don't, but I'd still go with the UV.

Thank you all for you input. I am really leaning toward the UV now. I just emailed the guy and he is willing to give me time to make my decision. Thanks again everyone for your valued input.

Re: UV777BK or RG1527

If the RG1527 is used as well I would go for the UV.
If you're considering the new RG1527 in white with the maple board I would take that. The RG 7 looks sweet in white. A pitty the headstock doesn't match but, hey, we can't have everything we want, eh?

I will try to behave... Some times it's just a question of taste, many people don't like Vai's stuff because of colors & graphics. For me uv seems to be better choice.

Re: UV777BK or RG1527

Get the UV. Especially if it's $800 and good condition. That instrument has a much better resale value in the long run compared to a 1527, too. I had a '99 UV, never had a problem with it.

Re: UV777BK or RG1527

I´ve got both and I think they are not really comparable. The UV has a much better feel and the tone is really different. Even when I put a EVO into the 1527.
For this price take the UV
