UV7BK, in a bad way, beginnings of a project!

Well, finally got what I was waiting for! A box!

And, lo behold, packets in bubble wrap!

and two packages emerge!

Re: UV7BK, in a bad way, beginnings of a project!

Oh dear... looks like this body is a used then,

but no matter, as i wasn't expecting it to be in any good state, the bits I really wanted were:

A UV7BK neck! I had one ages ago that I wanted to use for what I have in mind, but had to sell it, so it's kind of like coming full circle!

And a bridge (albeit one that most people think is really near to death)

And then, time for a quick assemly with no screws:

And a lengthways shot:

At the moment I've bolted the neck on, put the tuners on, and attached the trem with springs to the body. Tomorrow or the day after I am going to wire the pickup to the output jack (it's a blaze custom with a metal base plate which is quite cool) and see how it plays, then decide upon my plan of attack.

So far, however, the neck looks all good

However, I have no scratchplate, so mounting rhe pickup should be, er, well, interesting...

And I know it's in a bad state, but I was warned about it being in such a state, and as such don't mind, as long as the neck is good, my plan can come to fruition! Now what that plan is, however, is for me to know and others to find out!

At least the wood doesn't look too bad underneath the paint.

I was going to say, some people's sweat is really acidic, and it does a number on the tremolo, but the nut is the same. Maybe it was from a part of the country that's really humid or something.
Half the fun will be bringing it back to life! I would take the edge apart, and go at it with some WD40 and a wire brush. Then put it back together with some other type of oil to lubricate it.

Re: UV7BK, in a bad way, beginnings of a project!

Well, i'm trying to get an answer from graphtec as to whether i can get a set of 7 piezo saddles for the edge, as i think floyd rose saddles are a direct replacement, and it'd be cool to have piezos.

I've also got a sustainer from a revolver 7 (fernandes) that i need to find wiring schematic for, so I'm hoping to fit the whole lot in, whcih would involve getting a new body made in swamp ash.

As far as the paintjo, well, i have a plan, and have some of the cosmetic parts in my possession already

Re: UV7BK, in a bad way, beginnings of a project!

ok, bad (or good) news for me:

1) The body developed a second crack behind the trem, and what looks like another crack between the side of the trem cavity and the existing one. This was from just having a trem with springs attached on it, so I doubt it'll take string tension as well

2) The edge trem saddles are so rusted that some of the blocks won't even shift.

However, graphtec piezo saddles should retrofit on an edge trem, and it just means I have an excuse to get a swamp ash body made!

Gawd! that trem is grungy! I just bought a '91 UV7BK, and the trem is pockmarked with that bubbled-up corrosion, and a few small rusty spots, but works well, after I un-blocked it. I'm taking the trem off this weekend for a full inspection/cleaning, & string change.
