Vai and Flo

Well recently I've been scanning Steve Vai's site and I noticed Flo is actually a floral pattern painted white *Feels a big "Duh!" coming from alot of people reading* but I found that interesting because it's made of basswood and he didn't just pick another Jem 7vwh off the wall to play. This means his sound would be quite different from if he used a 'regular Jem'. Also just thought about them putting ebony on the vwh's neck for years just to find out it was rosewood and then changing it?

Re: Vai and Flo

I just don't know how true this is anymore - Flo may have started out as an FP, but haven't I seen photos of Flo showing an AANJ - which no FP ever had?

Re: Vai and Flo

Actually I think around '98 those Jems did have an AANJ. On the site it mentions about Flo 'the neck has been replaced by a 555' which I think is pretty funny.

Re: Vai and Flo

flo's neck has just been cut from a heel joint to an AANJ - if you look closely you can see how it has the old recessed part at the neck joint - like RG's a such had before the AANJ

the flo like any other production model hav the old square neck joint, it was remodel to an AANJ neck, if u had a chance to look, the joint is not perfect, the neck joint reaches higher into the neck. (if you understand what i jsut try to describe.haha)

and as far as the fretboard goes, ever since the first replacement of the neck on, vai has been using rosewood (i think)..i've nvr seen him using ebony fretboards..although ebony looks way better
