If you're a Vai fan, you DEFINITELY have to get these albums:

Eat 'Em and Smile (David Lee Roth)
Passion & Warfare
Alien Love Secrets

Re: vai's best?

passion and warfare and firegarden are my favourites. alien water secrets is good too. as far as actual guitar work goes, id say PnW is his finest hour, but firegarden is awesome in its all round musicality

Re: vai's best?

There's a Steve Vai Anthology out (double CD) that includes a bit from every era. that would be a good place to start

But if you want an album - then it has to be Passion and Warfare. Flex-able is good but it is a bit weird

Another vote for the Anthology as a beginner's introduction to Vai. Real Illusions has some tasty SV as well. Lotus Feet alone makes this album a must have.

I've got the Anthology and it's quite nice. It even has Kittens Got Claws on it.
