Thankfully, a messed up pot isn't that big of a deal, and is a pretty easy fix.
yeah, i wish that i knew how to do it myself, but underneath the hood, it looks a lot more intimidating, a bit more complex than when i swapped the pickup on my squier. plus, i'm not going to screw anything up on this one. this time i'll tell the tech to replace the pot rather than just fix it for the time being. something like that oughta last.

I'm sure we could walk you through it. But if you aren't comfortable, it'd probably be best to take it to a DIFFERENT tech!

Re: Volume knob stuck AGAIN

it would, i had my jackson's pickup replaced with a Mo' Joe and had the volume and tone pots replaced by a guy at our local guitar center, he is independent from GC, but his shop is in the store. his work is amazing, when i got my guitar back, i was pleased to find everything in working order, and all the wires neatly packed in the cavity and no mess with the solder.

the issue i have though, is that my UV is under warranty at sam ash, and therefore, i can get it done for free there, cause my guitar isn't even a year old yet. so, i could get it done with the other tech, i'd just have to pay him, and i don't know how much he would charge. my dad paid him $75 to get the work done on my jackson, so i'm not sure how much it would be. also how long. the techs here (the two i've experienced anyway) always seem to be backed up for two or three weeks. so it would be two or three weeks till i got my guitar back. and i hate that sooo much.

Re: Volume knob stuck AGAIN

just talked to a friend of mine who bought a jem a couple weeks before i bough my UV, he had the same problem with his volume pot, got stuck, he took it to the tech, but the tech replaced his. i wonder if this is a batch of these guitars that have defective knobs, or they are just cheap parts? whatever it is, i'm getting it swapped.

You're not alone. It's happened to all 3 new Ibanezes I've bought in the last 6 months: Jem, Universe, and RG20th.

hmm, that really blows chunks.

i see that that thread is from May, did ibanez happen to respond to it in any way?

anyways, i'm thinking of having the other tech at GC do it, since he did my jackson and my friend's PGM flawlessly. what do you think it'll cost me to just have that part replaced?

Now is the time to do some Internet/library study on soldering...... go buy the pot and a good pencil soldering iron and solder. Don't forget a couple of alligator clips to act as heat sinks. Then get some old wire or a old electronic component and start learning to solder.

Re: Volume knob stuck AGAIN

well, just dropped it off at the tech, told him i wanted it replaced, told me it'd be about a week, and be about $20 to do. I'm happy.

and since it's been a while since i've been in that store, i acted like a kid at toys'rus. played an electric drum kit, a jem, a schecter 7, a black rg with emg's, and i got to play Jordan rudess and play an oasys keyboard. i jumped off immediatly though when i saw the price tag ($8500, ) it was fun though.

now to play the waiting game....

what do you mean? do the alligator clips soak up some of the heat thereby reducing risk of overheating the component? that sounds like a cool idea, i've never seen it done before

LOL, all my RG's are older than I am. It is weird thinking that these little pieces of wood and metal have been in existence longer than me.

A week to replace a pot??? Jeez this tech must be busy as all hell if it will take that long to do it! Takes about 15-20 mins maybe.
