Want a DNA??

Afternoon Chaps
Just wanted to canvas opinion on this..............

I will soon be offering a full DNA copy guitar
Just completing this first prototype......

Herc Fede DNA body
New Dimarzios
New Cosmo Hardware
Used Ibanez RG skunk neck with new board and DNA inlay
Ibanez M100 case
Cliplock strap or Ibanez strap buttons

Its basically a case of only 300 real DNA's about, that cost a fortune, so get the next best thing......

Opinions please

Re: Want a DNA??

I don't know what you mean by skunk neck, but if I could get a Prestige or even a 500 series RG neck's fretboard redone as a DNA, with a quality body, then yes, I'd like a DNA copy.

Nevermind...bubinga strip down the back, right?

Re: Want a DNA??

I'm just referring to the Bubinga shunk stripe down the back of the more modern RG necks (as the DNA had)

And who bled in it?

Herc's DNA swirls look nothing like DNA's, neither do those fretboard inlays, while they're nice and abalam'y and psuedo'ish, none of it is DNA.

Re: Want a DNA??

I cut me finger while shaping the new board - does that count King Rich???

I'm pretty glad Hercs don't look like original DNA's Rich - Darrens are atrocious........

check out my mates DNA - i'd be real proud of that one - NOT!

Nice isn't it folks...... its got more runs than The Aussie cricket team!!!!!

Re: Want a DNA??

Looks pretty close to a DNA to me. Its not perfect, but its close enough (to my standards).

There is something a little off about the inlay but I cant actually pin point what it is. May be the material and wide of the "vine".

DNA swirls are very different from each other. Some are GREAT while other are bland or plain ugly (like the one you posted). The palette in Hercs swirl seems a little less "saturated" but I guess he can easily correct that.

Conseidring the prices that ATD swirls had been commanding, I guess its a valid alternative.

You get a guitar that plays like a DNA (if its an old RG neck it should be close enough), sounds like a DNA, and looks very similar to a DNA.

The hardcore collectors would probably still go for the originals, but guys like me (that cant conceive paying above 3 or 4 K for a guitar) would probably be interested in close replicas.

Anyway, I really like it. Congrats!

Just my 2 cents

Cool

Re: Want a DNA??

Sorry but Herc's swirls blow!!! they are very far away from the real deal!
to compare ATD swirls to Hercs is a bit stupid! Herc will never come even close to painting a real swirl! JMHO!

Obviously you have no taste in swirls. The DNA would top $8k, easy.

Re: Want a DNA??

The original inlay is a bit darker on one of the strands (grey), but it looks different with no frets in it.........

But thats the idea......... either

1) An affordable alternative

2) Something you can gig with without damaging your original etc.......

and as you can see from the 2 pics - Hercs Swirls are far nicer

Yes Kurac, the original DNA's swirl looks like an abatoir floor

I Know I know....... darren must have spent years perfecting how too get all this runs, drips and air bubbles into his swirls LOL

Another mate of mine who's had more than his fair share of serious Ibanez and other guitars, called today saying he was looking at the pics on the Ibanez registry of DNA's. Said there were 3 or 4 that looked nice..........
