Fantastic idea by Ibanez and Steve to re-release the swirled Universe.

However,
I think it's a great pity they didn't use the original colours.

The colors are the originals. Darren has refined his technique so they lay on the guitar a little stronger, and then they haven't faded for 20 years either

I've watched that part of the video a few times, and it seems to me that the key to getting a good swirl is making sure the paint on surface looks right before you ever dip. That sounds obvious, but from watching that video, I'm guessing that a messy swirl probably had paint that already looked like garbage in the vat before the guitar was ever dipped in.

In otherwords, you can tell before you even put the body in whether it stands a good chance of looking right. Perfect the paint in the vat before you ever dip. Easier said than done, I'm sure.

I think most people simply try to do too much with the paint and try to go for way too much. The swirls beauty lies in the simplicity, do it a bunch of times and your probably more worried about just getting them painted than anything else.

Neat video, but hard to watch because I want one soooooo bad I'd trade all my guitars for one. I could've afforded one(barely) but unfortunately my wife & I are forecd to file chapter 13, & the lawyers said we can't make any large purchases until it's over.

I envy those of you who will be able to get one of these beautys.

The huge vat makes sense because he most likely dips one guitar after another in different sections of the vat. Another thing he does that I haven't seen in some other swirling videos is move the guitar side to side on multiple axes. Watch specifically what he does to make a pink spot on the lower horn. In many of the videos, the swirler simply goes straight in and the only movement is on one axis, creating the "z" pattern you see on a lot of swirls.

pretty funny, i thougt if i seen darren swirl a guitar i would have a better chance on doing it like him. But to the opposite , im more confused than ever . they are definetly a paint ive never tried.evil darren , will you hold the secret till you die ?
