What is the real original Jem case?

What original case came with the JEMs, 1986-1995

Jemsite has the following info, which I believe, since all my Jems have the pink lining.

" JEM/UV Case - The JEM/UV case has a combo lock on the outside along with the words Ibanez in pink lettering. It has a large compartment on the inside. The pink lining used since '86 has been changed to burgundy for '97. The original pink-lined 777 case was a bit shorter and was soon made larger to accomidate the UV (with larger headstock). " ~ jemsite

However I was told there was another case with black lining too, is this true?

Re: What is the real original Jem case?

Every Jem I got until '91 had a black tolex case with black inside(except the 777LNG), with the pocket on the corner, like a Fender tolex case. They do have the Ibanez nameplate under the handle though, so I know they're original. All of mine had come from Chesbro, sometimes that makes a difference. Very good question, I've thought about asking too!

Re: What is the real original Jem case?

I am the original Owners of all my JEMs, 87RB, 89FP & 92PMC, all of these came with pink lining, inside black case with pink lettering Ibanez, which I thought was the standard for JEMs, and not the black on black, which I thought were just regular ibanez case and were not ment for JEMs.

Re: What is the real original Jem case?

All my Jem's came in the pink lined case pre 1997, with the exception of the BFP, which came in a goldish colored lined case.

Re: What is the real original Jem case?

That BFP would have originally been in a pink, unless it sat in the shop until after burgundy lined were in circulation.

Never figure what Chesbro sent out, they could have cared less if it was correct because HUSA controlled their cases and Chesbro was never going to wait for them. Their LNG's went out in grey lined cases.

And then it was fairly common for the dealers to screw up and mix the cases up, or, when cases were not priced with the guitars [because cases were ALWAYS seperate] customers could buy whichever they wanted, was in stock, was told about, or could afford.

The black lined cases are RG140's and never had anything to do with JEM's except by mistake.

Re: What is the real original Jem case?

So, all-in-all to have the pink lined case is what is truly suppose to be with JEMs from 86'-96', then 97' - current has the burgundy lined cases.

Does the correct case help anyway in value or for collectors?

just wondering

I always wondered about the BFP being in that gold lined case. Always struck me as weird. Thanks for the info!

Re: What is the real original Jem case?

When exactly the change took place can be debated better by those that were in biz at the time. I wasn't. But from what I've seen, 93 VWH's were in pinks, and by 95' [last run BFP's, and UV7 green dots] were in the lighter burgundy lined with less crinkle [light pink logo] and a couple years later the dark burgundy heavy krinkle with dark pink logo cases were out.

I always ordered my guitars with case, and that is why I got the Ibanez plate black cases. And they did/do care less, until '91 when they actually started shipping them with the "correct" cases.

In Australia, Jems and all signature models are not sold with Cases. That is extra. What a joke hey?????

Like Rich said, I would think the BFP would come in the pink lined case.

My '98 RG 7620 came with a burgandy lined UV case so I was guessing that '97 to '98 was when the burgandy lined cases came out.
