Re: What kind of Laquer on JEM necks?

If you don't want to change the feel of the neck, just give it a return to what it is or protect it, what is best, the gunstock oil, or maybe just a great wax like Virtuoso?

Then what about the body, what do y'all like to use?

Thanks...from a new JEM7VWH owner.

I agree...I've finished two necks with tung oil and it is great and extremely smooth. You can get it in high gloss and low gloss, but from my experience the high gloss isn't that glossy

I've sanded two Jem necks now. Haven't put ANYthing on them after sanding. I prefer the feel of soft wood instead of slicky 'n icky ooze on it. I'd sand the neck of my Les Paul, too, but it's white and would look bad after that :-|

The question is, can this cause any harm to the necks?
the back of the zakk wylde les paul is stripped to wood and it looks good.

Question

Re: What kind of Laquer on JEM necks?

What kind of lacquer is needed for Maple Fretboards?
I read Epoxy was necessary to protect it, especially for Fretless.

Does any Epoxy suffice?

How do you apply it? Brush?

Question

Re: What kind of Laquer on JEM necks?

The unsolved question:

What kind of Lacquer is used on the JEM Maple fretboards (Pyramid)?
Epoxy? If so, what kind?
Is there any better options available? "Thin" Van Halen finish.

What's On the Vine Rosewood FBs then?

Im sure the origional jem had a poly finish on the(maple fretboard &) neck. If this is a fretless, you will need to have an epoxy finish, or somethinf equally hard on it. Laquer will wear out in a day on a fretless.

No finish on rosewood boards typically...
