what would you do (question about UV's)
Hello all,
I'm new here, and the reason why i've joined is because i'm looking to buy a universe styled guitar in the next couple of months. I really want something unique and special, and not something thats just off the shelf, so to speak. Also, I want something thats QUALITY.
I really love the UV77MC's, but since i have a budget of 2 grand, i don't think i'll beable to come across one. So, I can either purchase an already existing UV (a UV7Bk, UV7PWH, or UV777) and customize it to my liking by changing out the pickguard, or putting
bobbin toppers
on the pickups, OR, perhaps i could get a fully
custom guitar
from a small builder.
The advantage of getting a used guitar and customizing it would be perhaps saving some money, as i don't really care about nicks and scratches and what not, while still getting a unique looking guitar.
I guess my question is this: if it were up to you, what would you do?

I would say if you want something unique, and you are into the UV77MCs, then buy a used UV7Bk or UV7PWH and have it swirled. No two swirls are alike so you are guaranteed uniqueness!

Oh, I saw that there is a UV77MC in the jemsite classifieds right now for $2700. Its not mine, but it looks decent in the pics. Check it out...

Yes, you could always get a used UV and have it swirled and customized. That would be a good route to go.

What about buying a 7 string RG model and then modding it how you want? Would be a ashame to repaint a UV7pwh.

Yeah or buy a neck and the pickups and get a blank UV body. Then paint it to your liking. I just don't like the idea of modifying authentic (+rare+also expensive) guitars. My two cents. I'm new to the Ibanez scene as I yet have to get my first JEM (a JEM7V BK).

I have to side with the popular vote, refinning a PWH should be against the law, but one of those green dot Universes, or the plain black one, even a new one no big deal. The PWH though are too hard to come by.

Re: what would you do (question about UV's)
They are all quality guitars, the old UVs, the new UVs, and the Prestige RGs, but they all play differently. Try a few and find one with a neck you like, then go from there. Don't base your choice of instrument on the color of the instrument, base it on how the neck feels in your hands. If you have that, you can do whatever else you want and be happy. If the neck isn't great, then changing bobbin toppers or swirling it won't do jack for it.
