What's next for the UV?
Ibanez has been making the 777BK since 1998.
It would be nice to see some new UVs.
A reissue of the PWH or MCs...
How long are they going to go with the 777BK?
Isn't it about time Ibanez designs a new UV?
What are your thoughts on this?.........

I really hope they don't put the 777BK out of production, 'cause I really wanna get my hands on one.

Re: What's next for the UV?
Maybe a new UV might be based on his mirror-plated one, but then again, I think that'd take a lot of work. A bit too flashy as well, IMO.

An original Bad Horsie colour (Natural wood, cream p/uks, black guard) UV should be introduced i think!

Am I the only one who thinks that Ibanez has been neglecting the UV series as a direct consequence of Vai hardly playing 7's anymore?

What's next? I would suspect discontinument.
I don't expect it will be hard for you to get your hands on one. They're pretty easy to find.

Re: What's next for the UV?
I wish I knew how to quote properly... anyhow
Am I the only one who thinks that Ibanez has been neglecting the UV series as a direct consequence of Vai hardly playing 7's anymore?
Vai did use the 7 on the new album at least, so that may help keep it from being discontinued too quicky. Somebody asked him before the show here why he doesn't play 7's on stage anymore, and to summarize a really long answer he gave, he said it was too much to take on the road. Every guitar has to have a backup or two and it gets to where there are just too many, especially for travelling overseas where I guess they limit some of what they take along. Weiner and sometimes MacAlpine are playing 7s on stage although they are different models than the Universe, so the sonic area is covered, it's just not him playing it.
That being said, I would like to get another 777bk at some point, I had to sell mine in order for the wife to allow me to order a 77brmr. It probably would be so bad, except that I got the updated shipping information the other day, and it's going to be sometime in May or June before I get what I ordered in January.... depressing.

Re: What's next for the UV?
I'd like to see a new UV as well but it doesn't seem to me like the artist's image is very important when it comes to what Ibanez decides to sell.
Last year Satch played a lot his 7-string on tour but we weren't delighted with a
production model
this year at Namm. And I think it's pretty safe to say that Ibanez maniacs like us would have been happier with a 7-string JS than with that absurd
chrome boy
re-issue. Ibanez selling policy is way beyond human understanding and I've given up trying to figure it out... We'll just have to wait and see.

True! Just because
Steve Vai
isn't playing 7's , I would like to think that every 7-stringer
Out there is.

Re: What's next for the UV?
I really hope the UV stays around, but then again look at how they have been thinning out the herd with the jems? There are in the U.S. only 2 jems are being offered and 1 UV. Maybe Steve is getting ready to jump ship! Maybe he's going to Carvin? Nah!

No, you're not the only one. In fact, since Steve appears to be done with the whole 7-string movement he popularized with the average modern rock guitarist, I think Ibanez should drop the UV altogether and concentrate on a good line of RG series 7's, separate from Steve. If he doesn't use them and has no interest in further developing the line, why put his name on them?
However... since Ibanez has cut back the variety on
all
their guitars, what's the point in diversifying the guitar line? The RG line has very few Japanese models that are standouts anymore. Their cost-cutting moves are sadly reducing the quality of the breed. Very little differetiates the many levels of models anymore aside from cheap cosmetics and varying qualities of hardware installed on the guitars. Available colors can hardly constitute a "rainbow" of guitars as was available in years past. They dropped the matching headstock on the Prestige models - a huge turn off for me.
With their recent neglect on the part of Ibanez, I see myself looking to used RG guitars for future acquisitions. I have a brand new RG2770 that I am trying like hell to sort out, but it's hard to do, the Edge Pro isn't cooperating, I have yet to invest in a
locking stud
kit
(which shouldn't be a problem on a $1000 guitar)
... it's simply an inferior guitar to my two '91 RG's and even my '01 UV777BK. It'll cost me time and money to make it the guitar is should have been from the factory. If I didn't love the sound, the look, and already have a good stable of well-behaved older
Ibanez guitars
, I might have abandoned the brand for their, in my opinion, mishandling of the evolution of their guitars.
But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.
