i would, of course, get the jem ;-) plus, DY is ubercool in my opinion, but then you could always have fun using it as a project-finish guitar

Personally, I'd get the RG550. You get nearly the same guitar as a JEM777 except for the flashiness and the pickups. Those are a quick change.

Best way for you to know is to go try them out. See which one fits you best. Good luck!

not the same guitar .. different neck..

to me, a guitar's neck/profile/width/feel is THE most important part of the guitar.. pretty much everything else is fixable.

I'd go for the JEM, but if you don't like the color of it and want to play the hell out of that instrument, I'd get the RG!!!

If you have the bucks I'd go for the DY, you're getting a guitar of similar/slightly higher quality to the 550, but also getting a guitar that will hold a slightly better resale value than the 550, it also has better pups, pyramids and all the usual Jem routs, i.e. Monkey, Claw (which are not important to me to be honest ) and if you don't like DY then you are an odd fellow....didn't you know revolting colours are back in trend j/k

Seriously, I'd go for the DY, but if money is an issue grab the 550.

Steve

P.S. The 30 ain't a bad machine if you can have it cheap.

DY was so heavily used that it didn't do all that much for me at the time. NOW I miss it. I'd say go with the JEM.

Dy. No doubt about that. The colour won´t mind when plugged.

i've had them all and loved them but out of those 3 i kept the pgm30.

i fell in love with the crazy thin neck of the vdy. i kinda regret selling it at times but the DNA neck is just as thin so i'm happy even though i never play my DNA.

the 550 was so nice. perfect neck for me and a nice solid guitar. it felt more tailor made for me than the vdy.

the pgm30 was just perfect for me although you can tell the difference between it and a nice jem.....a newer one. i personally hate jems from the 80's. i can't stand the necks on them or the big block where the neck mounts to the body.

it's your call in the end. you'll know what to do. good luck.
