I'd LOVE one of those to strip/refinish as a project guitar...

I think even most "good" swirls are hideous, but the guitars themselves play quite well.

Unless those swirls are completely horrendous, something we dont know for sure the moment (and may never know), it would be criminal to do that. If you want a UV to refinish, you can get a beat up UV7BK for a lot less! Otherwise its just cruelty, leave the swirls "alive" for the swirl lovers......

Save the swirls!

Arguable - I feel as if I'd merely be evening the score, so to speak, for all the otherwise attractive non-swirl guitars that were used for swirl refinishes.

Re: Who else would like to see a UVMC reissue?

I'd hate to see a UVMC re-issue. Only due to the fact that they will be horrendously expensive and totally out of my price range.....thus meaning I still won't be able to afford one!!! AAAAAAARRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH

the agony of it all!!!

Re: Who else would like to see a UVMC reissue?

Well, may be you should search those markets outside the US and western Europe where there are no collectors. Just as an examle:

Guitars are much more expensive in Argentina than the USA (a new VWH retails for around 3K and a used one in good condition goes for around 1800-2200), yet you come acroos "collectable" or rare guitar for pretty low prices. I bought one of my MCs trading in a used Yamaha RGZ621 (made in Taiwan or indonesia) and 800USD, I bought the other one for 1000USD, en they are both in perfect condition. There were a couple of PMCs sold around 1500, I bought a great 777DY for 800, there was a 540S7 published for months for 770USD before it was finally sold. A mint PGM500 with HSC was published for MONTHS for 900USD and was never sold. The same happened to a jem90 that was published for 2K and never got an offer above 1500. I mean, a UCGR can go for about the same as a regular RG770 or S540....

This are exceptions, the general rule is some guy asking 600-800 for a used RG550 or another asking around 1000 for a 770DX, but they do appear.
Argentina may be a particualr case due to the fact that a lot of interesting models were imported during 1990 and 2000, but It wouldnt surprise me if something similar happens in other markets.

Now, by buying a guitar from outside your country you ll always be taking a chance. Wether taking that chance is worth it, its your call. There are at least 5 UVMCs in argentina, I only own 2 of them. The best one was up for sale about a year ago. It was published at 1800USD, I think that then it was down to 1700 and If I recall correctly, the guy finally took some sort of trade in plus some cash.

Re: Who else would like to see a UVMC reissue?

RCB, research markets outside of Northern Ireland is definately the way to go for me. The last guitar I purchased was a 91 BFP from Belgium. Player condition but just what I was looking for.

My point is that only with the advent of the net and this fine site here do I have the opportunity to maybe get a bargain from some far off land. You aint going to get a bargain in Belfast, thats for sure.

As far as a UVMC or even a PMC, i'd be happy enough to even see one in the flesh never mind get my hands on one for keeps.

I agree with a few points already made, that a UVMC re-issue would be a waste, what with the state of the 7-string market.....and we don't need another swirl so close to the DNA`s.
Something a little different would be nice.....a flip paint Jem like the anniversary JS.....light azure blue to purple flip, chrome hardware and the obligatory maple board. Sweeeeeet

I'm away to clean up the mess i made :-)

I agree that swirls aren't the best thing out there. I would rather have another PWH than an MC.
BUt still, I think the MC is a work of art. I'd still own one.

The black paint on the backside of the yellow is just gorgeous, hermano!
But, 90% of the time, you play and use a guitar showing the front.
IMO, the green one has the better front.
Anyway, i'd kill someone to have 1 UVMC.
Think it about having 2 of them on stage at same time!!! Y U M M Y !!!
Congratz!

I think they should... but Ibanez would never do it. You have to remember, whether you like it or not Ibanez makes guitars to sell... and there just isn't the market for them as there was when they where first relesed.

Re: Who else would like to see a UVMC reissue?

Any new Universe would be good so long as it's a different colour to black for gods sake - it's all us Universe people have been able to get our hands on for years (mines a 97), for those of us who want to pack two guitars up when we gig I for one don't want two identical black ones so a change would be nice.

I'm not a fan of collectable guitars either - guitars are made to be played and something creative done with them not hung on walls and admired by all your mates for the fact that you just spent £3k on a guitar and you daren't touch it.

So I'd love to just see more choice in the current Universe lineup (more choice than one shouldn't be too hard) - who cares wether Steve Vai has packed his up in a box never to see the light of day again there are still a wealth of Universe players who would like a new one, those who don't actually have MC's and PWH's must be crying out for for a 'new' reissue - I'm not about to pay out the large sums of money for an old (essentially 15 years or so) guitar to take it out on the road. Also you'd be missing the AANJ which is great.

So what was my point... ohh yeah don't do some special 'collectors' reissue just do some new Universes with a bit more choice in paintwork bugger what Steve Vai recommends "I" want a couple of new Universe's to replace my old one and my RG.

PWH player, and I agree with you completely, the current UV looks great, but after nearly 10 years, I wouldn't mind seeing a new one introduced, either.

Specially when Steve himself has said something along the lines of "i wanted these axes not to have my name on them so that they would appeal to any player"... (or something like that)

So, give us players what we want!! more UV choices!!!
