Why are JEM's so expensive?

Are Jem's upgraded RG's? Why are those much more expensive than RG's?

I want to raise other debate for those who are new. What's the point of a forum if everything is already beaten to death?

RGs are simplyfied jems and all in all they are not overpriced! Look for Fenders or a Gibsons of the same quality, look what you pay for them and then call me back..I wonder why tere're so many threads here asking such a nonsense question

There is no debate. Jems cost what they cost. If you want one, buy one. If you think they cost too much money for what they are, then don't buy one. Debating the issue won't change the price nor one's ability to purchase one or not. Like Elcid stated, this topic has been beaten to death. Do a search, find the thread and have a good read.

RG's are acually 'stripped-down' Jems.

The real quick "bottom line" on this topic (for the sake of the newbies) is:
1. A lot of labor goes into making the Jem, particularly all of the carving and fitting of the inlays in the neck.
2. The Jem is one of Ibanez's flagship guitars.
3. A lot of RGs are made overseas. The Prestige Jems are made at "home" in Japan, and so is the Jem.

The first Jem was really a Banjo and Jesus used to play it for the apostles while they all got drunk.

I don't think they're overpriced. Unlike current fuel prices. Costs a fortune for a tankful

Why do people ask same question all the time?

Btw, It's like an exclusivity and a symbol of luxury. For example, you don't see Apple selling their laptops for $400 during thanksgiving. They are always costly as hell.

Re: Why are JEM's so expensive?

It's a fair question and it won't go away. Especially when one is just starting to play, the differences between models are impossible to figure out. Two guitars look exactly alike, but one is less than half the price of another because of the labor costs in the country of origin. Pickups, trem, neck construction, these are other important but subtle details that influence the price.

After playing a JEM, I love my RG550 even more, and might prefer it even if price weren't an issue. When you have a guitar that's almost as good (my humble opinion) for half the price, people are going to ask "why?"

Re: Why are JEM's so expensive?

Jems are precision crafted instruments, and a signature series to boot!

Take a look the price of a Jimmy Page, Slash or Zakk Wylde Les paul (way more pricey than jems), or a Stevie Ray Strat.

When a guitar is made in a country or place that provides craftsmanship over quantity, and you throw a Celebrity name on it, your gonna pay a bit more. There is no way around it.
