the wizard 2 neck, is not only flatter on the back but it
feels thinner measuring from the back of the nect to the
front of the fret board and the fretboard is also flatter.
The jem neck is definitely rounder with a more convex
fretboard. And it does feel thicker (pause) measuring
from back to front. For the people who view the wizard 2
necks as being cheaper or inferior to the jem necks, I
think thats wrong. The Jem7PBK came with a wizard 2
neck and did that make it any more inferior or cheaper
than a Jem777? Maybe some of the cheaper Ibanez guitars
that come with the wizard could be considered inferior
but besides that it's really just a preference of which you
radius you prefer. They are both well crafted and constructed
necks.
The JEM7PBK came with a Wizard neck, not a Wizard 2 neck.

The JEM profile has a 430 mm radius to the fretboard meaning it is actually less convex than the 400 mm radius board found on the Wizard 2.

But yes, the "better" profile is simply a matter of personal preference.

I'm with the guys, the two necks are completely different.
Play one and other and you'll feel it, unless you're a n00b.

In terms of profile they feel much the same to me - I've barely played the Wizard II since 1997 but find it easy to switch when I occasionally pick it up. Fret size and finishing make the Jem much nicer though.

Re: Wizard II neck IS a JEM neck.

In comparison, the old Wizard is a lot more thinner and flatter than a Wizard II. Those new 5 piece wizard necks on the other hand feels a lot like a Wizard II despite the spec saying they are a lot more thinner.

Hence,

old Wizard and Wizard II = night and day difference
new Wizard and Wizard II = very similiar

Re: Wizard II neck IS a JEM neck.

even in the necks of the 777 are differences, and the vbk and dy/pmc/sk/lng are different too,its a little but it is.the pbk and vdy are totally different.even thinner than the old 550 and the feel is different too.i can feel the difference between my 2 vdy jems too.its not that im high sensetive or something but you can feel it. a lot of people have expererienced the differences in 550/570's too.that must be.i had 5 uvpwh's and even there was a little difference to notice, not that much but it is.even in sound.my sk sounds different than my lng of pmc,so i gues the discussion isnt that important but what you feel and hear.years ago i read specs and thought i knew it...now i know it is in the guitar and not the count of parts that makes it.

Re: Wizard II neck IS a JEM neck.

I'd put W2 in the "Extremely Close... but no cigar" category. One of the things I really love about Indy guitars is that the W2 feels very close to being a Jem neck. It's thicker, obviously, than W1 so you can really dig your fingers into those notes!
As far as being the "same"; no, not exactly. The different radius makes W2 feel more boxy. I think the prevalence of neck binding on W2 makes it worse. I have a maple fretboard W2 that feels much better than its rosewood counterparts with binding.
And, yes, it goes without saying that you'll see better craftsmanship on a Jem.
