Wizard II neck IS a JEM neck.

Am I the only one who notices this?

The Wizard II neck is the same neck as a JEM, the only difference being fretboard radius.

Theres a lot of guys who run their mouth about how bad the Wizard II necks are and how
they only put them on lower model Ibanez guitars.... BUT IT'S THE SAME NECK AS A JEM!

Am I missing something here?

Re: Wizard II neck IS a JEM neck.

I am going to hazard a guess that the 30 mm extra of radius makes all the difference in the world.

Re: Wizard II neck IS a JEM neck.

You are looking at the thickness measurements, which mean nothing in terms of the neck profile.

A WII neck feels nothing like a JEM neck because they are completely different.

A wizard I neck is the same as a wizard II, all that is different is thickness and radius...

So really your statment is false. How can they be the same if they are different.

and to discuss the Jem and Wiz 2 neck, I assume the Jem neck gets a little more in the way of craftsmanship before they leave the factory and arrive at the shop...

Question

Re: Wizard II neck IS a JEM neck.

Yeah they're only the same in thickness really, the Jem neck feels miles better than WizIIs which are kind of squareish in shape.

This would also be very inaccurate.

Completely different necks.

Re: Wizard II neck IS a JEM neck.

So the neck profiles are different? It's hard to imagine a big difference in neck profiles when the thickness measurements line up.

How would you describe a JEM neck compared to a wizard II? I've owned a Wizard II neck but have only once played a floral jem when I was younger and can't recall the difference in neck profile.

Jem neck has a much rounder feel, wiz II feels flatter on the back giving it more volume than the jem neck.

The way to think of necks having different profiles is to think about the profile as a 2 dimentional cross section of the neck. One might be a triangle one might be a rectangle and one might an arc through a circle.

So although 2 of the dimensions of the neck are the same, there's a lot of room to manoeuvre. You've also got the think about how your hand can tell the differences between the thickness of a pick. We're talking about 10ths of millimeters, so hands can definately tell the difference between neck profiles.

it's also been my experience that JEM neck profiles have evolved slightly over the years.

HUB, you are exactly right. I own both of these necks
and I've played them for years. I love them both equally
as much but it is true they are uniquely different. IMO
the wizard 2 neck, is not only flatter on the back but it
feels thinner measuring from the back of the nect to the
front of the fret board and the fretboard is also flatter.
The jem neck is definitely rounder with a more convex
fretboard. And it does feel thicker (pause) measuring
from back to front. For the people who view the wizard 2
necks as being cheaper or inferior to the jem necks, I
think thats wrong. The Jem7PBK came with a wizard 2
neck and did that make it any more inferior or cheaper
than a Jem777? Maybe some of the cheaper Ibanez guitars
that come with the wizard could be considered inferior
but besides that it's really just a preference of which you
radius you prefer. They are both well crafted and constructed
necks.

i don't think there's ever been a jem above a 555 that's come with a wizard 2...?

The JEM7PBK came with a Wizard neck, not a Wizard 2 neck.

The JEM profile has a 430 mm radius to the fretboard meaning it is actually less convex than the 400 mm radius board found on the Wizard 2.

But yes, the "better" profile is simply a matter of personal preference.
