Re: Wondering about douglas fir wood or fir wood
Pasting the vinyl decal over top of the original would look rather bad. Since I have been
messing with some
custom guitars
this past 8 months, I have noticed that many
"aftermarket" decals are not the exact same fitment as the stock one. In addition,
factory
Ibanez guitars
do not have their logos in the same spot as well. Thus when people
make a "copied" vinyl decal - you're going by their specs which might be slightly off. Your best bet
would be to buy the decal from the Bay, then have someone professionally strip and paint
your factory headstock again and apply the decal before it's clearcoated. It looks much better than the
water-slip or whatever it's called that they use with the originals IMO. You never have to
worry about scratching the logo again and you can have it in any color you would like.
If you go the other way, it will give the logo a 3-D appearance because they won't match up exactly.

Re: Wondering about douglas fir wood or fir wood
Fir is just that... fir. Just like cedar is cedar and oak is oak. You get the idea.

Re: Wondering about douglas fir wood or fir wood
fir any tree of the genus Abies of the family Pinaceae ( pine family), tall pyramidal evergreen conifers characterized by short, flat, stemless needles and erect cylindrical cones that shed their scales rather than dropping off the tree whole. Firs, valued and cultivated for their fragrance and beauty, are found chiefly in alpine regions of the Northern Hemisphere. In North America the balsam fir, or balsam, popular as a Christmas tree and the source of Canada balsam , is native to the Northeast; the Fraser fir, or she-balsam, grows in the Alleghenies and is used as a Christmas tree; and the noble, alpine, and red firs are found at high altitudes and the grand, silver, and white firs on lower mountain slopes in the Northwest. Fir wood is usually light and soft but is sometimes used for interior finishing and for crates and boxes. The Douglas fir, Pseudotsuga menziesii, is not a true fir (see pine ). Firs are classified in the division Pinophyta , class Pinopsida, order Coniferales.

Re: Wondering about douglas fir wood or fir wood
Pine, comes from the pine tree, google it.
Douglas fir wood, is apparenly exceptionally hard and stiff. Not what I expected being of the pine family, so it sounds strong enough to construct a guitar from.
I'm not sure what the grain is like, but hey ho!

Re: Wondering about douglas fir wood or fir wood
I wouldn't be worried about the tone of the pine, I'd be worried about how soft and susceptible to climatic changes it is. There's a reason all the cheap furniture everyone buys these days is made of pine. It's a very soft wood.
