Wow... this thing is really versatile - Just sharing a JEM e

Some weeks ago, I have played my last gig in my former band. The setlist was ver ecletic and it would need a very versatile guitar to avoid too many guitar swaps during the performance. I've choosen my JEM 555. Although the tremolo isn't very good, it's a good axe in my opinion. Anyway, I just grabbed the guitar and played the gig. And guess what... I played rock, blues, instrumental and other styles using only that guitar. The Evos did a great job. Next time, I wish I'd play a 7VWH instead. Now I'm 100% sure that all my axes will be Ibanez JEMs!

Here's the setlist:

- Summer Song (Satch)
- Answers (Vai)
- For The Love Of God (Vai)
- What It Is (Mark Knopfler)
- Cocaine (Eric Clapton)
- Pride And Joy (SRV)
- Rock And Roll (Led Zeppelin)
- Alive (Pearl Jam)
- Welcome To The Jungle (GNR)
- Smoke On The Water (Deep Purple)
- My Guitar Wants To Kill Your Mama (Zappa)
- Pictures Of Home (Deep Purple)
- Can't Stop Loving You (VH)

If you like the 555, wait til you try a 7VWH. It blows the doors off a Jem Jr.

I wonder if we might ever see a rosewood fretboard on the 7VWH, considering Vai has been occasionally replacing one with a 555 neck. Who knows!

Actually, I've already played many 7VWHs... They're just too expansive for me!

And I think its Ebony fingerboard makes it too bright-sounding for me. I prefer rosewood ones.

Wow, that was a very ecclectic set list. All this with your 555, did you avoid using your tremolo?

Nice set-list, totally guitar orientated. Most people I've jammed with would never play those tunes. They claim the audience wants more pop-style and would stop coming to our shows. It's nice to see other musicians that appreciate good music, and are willing to play it.

No. I've replaced the tremolo arm and arm holder for OFR ones. Then I could play all songs almost perfectly and no annoying clampin' noises.

And it's impossible to play FTLOG, Summer Song and Answers with no trem!

Thanks! As my last gig, it had to be MY gig. So, I've choosen only guitar-orientated songs. My thought about playing: play what you like and don't worry about the rest. There's always some people that appreciate the music you play. Just be sincere in your music and positive results will certainly appear.
