Question

1995 J-Custom??

Hey folks, I just got my J-Custom 1302 LBU in today and just noticed that the serial # is "510162" with "Made in Japan" under it in the same font as the Jem logo. Now if I'm not mistaken, weren't J-Customs made in 1997?

I know this is an old J-Custom model(the 1302 I mean), but would it be possible that Ibanez started production of these guitars back in '95?

I don't think the J-Customs follow the same serialnumber pattern as regular Ibanezes, so your guitar is probably a 97

Interestingly enough I just took it apart and the neck pocket is stamped as a RG-302 but the Neck is stamped as RG-308. No other markings aside from those.

Re: 1995 J-Custom??

The 1302 was an early model...
Is this the one wich is (or was) on ishibashi ?

Do you know what the specs are exactly ?

All models from 97/98/99 i've seen had a regular serial number...
So if this one has a different one, I suppose it must have benne crafted earlier...

Re: 1995 J-Custom??

Yeah it was the RG-1302 LBU that Ishibashi had in thier U-Box. They couldn't date it properly either. They said it was "probably" made in 1997 but they weren't too sure. They had another 1302 instock (listed in the u-box as just a J-Custom) and they were more or less certain that was a '97 1302(they didn't give me the serial #, but they said it was).

I ended up getting this 1302 off them during thier two day 10% off sale a couple weeks ago. It was almost half the price of the other one because it had all these dents and nicks on the body and neck(nothing I can't fix). Spec wise it seems to conform to the RG-1302 listed on the j-custom spec sheet here on Jemsite.

Aside from the one serial number and the script font "Made in Japan" there are no other markings. So if all other J-customs follow the standard serial number system I guess this "could" have been made in 1995.

The JC "control" [for lack of better description] number contains no date code.

I see, so i guess it's all good. Now I can at least chop up and fix up this J-Custom without feeling bad. (that and now I don't need to ask Jim Donahue about this guitar)
