Lightbulb 2008 RG 1570 Prestige modified

The list of things done to the guitar

• Replaced stock Hum-buckers with a Air Norton/Norton Dimarzio set.
• Stripped of the "Biker Black" paint and re-painted Satin black (I disliked the "leather grain")
• Extended the "scoop" of the lower horn and rounded the "edge" off a small bit
• 2008 Prestige Wizard neck shaved to original Wizard neck thickness (approx) 17mm-18mm with the 17mm being more rounded.
• Neck slightly shimmed to facilitate better action, and sink the trem down further for a more ergonomic "flush to the body" feel
• Tone pot removed, replaced with a momentary kill-switch
• Volume pot 330pf ceramic capacitor removed and replaced with a 150pf Mica cap. (My old PRS used this value, and I like it)

More pics to come.

I eventually plan on buying a brass trem block, and one of Ibanez's collet knobs to replace the current one.

I wasn't able to buy my own "custom" RG, so I made it.

Wow, do you have any pull up room at all with the bridge that low in the body?

Looking forward to more pics!

The brass block is up there with one of the best upgrades you can do, IMO. When I did mine it was night-and-day difference (and so it should, the new block is nearly three times the size and weight of the old!), the whole guitar felt alive.

That's really cool looking Kevin, but doesn't sinking the bridge that far into the body severely limit it's capabilities??

It seems that dives would be limited because the bar is so much closer to the body, and pull-ups (if any) are limited because the tail of the trem is right on top of the trem cavity.

Re: 2008 RG 1570 Prestige modified

When I bought my RG2570 (used) it was setup like that. Really low in the body (the action was practically on the frets too).

It had no room to pull up any more than MAYBE a whole step on the G string, if that, and yes, dives were limited too unless you pointed the bar to the back of the guitar and pulled it up to make it dive.

Even with the action set fairly normal it was too low so I had to shim the neck. (Well, I removed a neck-side shim and added a bridge side shim)

All is well now. Even though I really wouldn't care about the range of the vibrato, I personally found it uncomfortable to have the strings THAT close to the body, but to each his own.

Oh, forgot to mention:

The bar was actually hitting the volume knob and if I had the switch in the middle position, swinging the bar up or down would change the pickup selection...

I don't seem to be having that problem at all. Then again I rarely pull up more than a whole step.

It feels nicer to me. The bar doesn't even come close to the body when I dive.

More pics

Taken on my iPhone... so don't expect a lot ;-)

Here you can tell the neck has been made thinner. The stock 08 wizard has a 18mm thickness at the start. That was sanded down to 17mm and rounded out. Then the neck was made flatter as it went on. The thickest is 18 almost 19mm

One of the nicest Ibanez guitars I've owned.

Even if I had to modify it to get it that way.
