3120...

I found a new 3120 sitting at a local music store. I will repeat that. I found a NEW 3120 sitting at a local music store. There was damn near a 1/16" thick layer of dust sitting on the thing.

The tag read $1300, and it is freakin' gorgeous. Only problem is, at the moment, I really don't need it. My 20051 is perfect, and I have my ESP for alternate tunings.

Of course I want it, but money being an issue, and me not having a genuine need, I'm not sure if I should splurge...

What do I do?

Yes, buy it. No, wait, don't.

Does it matter what we say? Are you really going to let people on an internet forum tell you how to spend $1300? You've already said you don't need it and money is an issue. I think the answer's pretty obvious. Should you screw your finances for a guitar just because, wait, OMG, it's in a shop and it like, shouldn't be there because it's a few years old!!!! OMG, that adds SO much to the value; BUY IT!

Re: 3120...

I'll say, I would sit down, see how I can pull a 1,300$ out of someone and pay him back as soon as possible, in the sure way.

Like myself right now in debt for my dad and friends for all the gear I bought last year when I was in the army (USAC, Bandit, effects, etc) and my plan is to sell my old guitar, if it won't sell quickly - just out of the unemployment fees, if those run dry I'll have to find a work anyway... so I can hang through there.

1,300$ is a lot of money, at least for me, and I have no idea what are your and your friends financial abilities in general, I could only offer you to do what I did and calculate it all on the paper, see where you can tighten yourself and build a good plan.
The most important thing about those plans is keep a fair cushion margin and if you keep that one up, you'll be fine.

if you're referring to the last run of 3120's (those with the IBZ pickups, centre-mounted dot markers), they were going for circa $1000USD on That Auction Site last year. not sure how low the big stores were blowing them out for in the end, but personally i wouldn't be getting too excited about $1300.

with that said, if it were $1000 i'd go for it.

Re: 3120...

I got a mint 2001 RG3120 for $700 last year. I sold it a couple of days ago. It's a decent guitar, but I needed an RG 20th. If you hold out, you will probably find a good one for between $600 - $800. I wouldn't bother paying $1300.

Re: 3120...

Sorry for the confusion/ridiculousness. I've just always loved the 3120, especially in TDB which this guitar just so happens to be. I suppose its best that I don't get it. My pocket will be happier, I'll be happier, and my wife will be happier

Well, if anybody is looking for a new one, I can point you in the right direction

Re: 3120...

I agree with Dee. A nice used one for $600-800. I have bought 4 for 600 or less and did some custom work like this:

I still have a red 3120DR that I swapped all the hardware for gold. One of the prettiest guitars I have ever owned.
