540SOL Info Wanted

Hi all,

Since I've joined, I've pulled out some of my guitars that I haven't used in a long while and one of them has always been a puzzle to me. I've found a link off here to the 1992 Ibanez Catalog and Identified it as a 540SOL and according to the neck plate it's from the Case Ave. shop.

Most of the ones I've seen up to now have dot inlays, mine are abalone ovals and mine has the Custom Made logo on the fret board.

From the custom shop history here it says that the Case Ave. shop was for Endorsee guitars... is that what this is? If so, why would it have been in the 92 catalog? Maybe it was a C Endorsee guitar but with a different pu config?

Anyways, here's pics, please let me know any info you have. I have owned it since about early 93 and never play it because my 540R Radius feels so much better to me. I may be looking for a JS model to replace this or a Jem or ?

Nahhh, far from it. It'd need 24 frets, different pups (in fact, no need at all for that single coil in the middle), and matching headstock, at a minimum.

It does look nice, still.

Re: 540SOL Info Wanted

SOL stands for Satin Oil finsih. Some say this allows the wood to resonate better than one with a think poly finish on it. I tend to agree as I have an RG620BM-SOL which is a mahogany RG with this same finish with a burled mahogany top.

Re: 540SOL Info Wanted

How do you treat SOL finish. Can I just use regular guitar polish?

Satin oil..

Not an endorsement guitar or custom shop or anything like that. It's just where the Sabers were assembled at the time.

Nice guitars. All of them, except for the rosewood/shark tooth had the oval inlays.

SOL I've seen abbreviated from Stained Oil, as Herman said and also "Special Oil", I don't recall the "satin oil" though

Re: 540SOL Info Wanted

Both satin oil and stained oil finishes exist.
Doesn't looked stained to me, Just looks like a natural oil finish

So i would say satin oil

Re: 540SOL Info Wanted

Stained Oil Finish is what is written at the back of the 1994 Ibanez Catalog.
I have 2 guitars of that colour made in 1995.
