Re: 5K new Ibanez J custom

Why can't Ibanez make guitars like that regularly? If they had that guitar as a regular production model, I would have bought it long ago. (I like the black one, not the blue one)

The quality of the wood top and the quality of the finishing (not counting the body inlays) are much higher than their standard fare. For one, highly figured, defect-free wood like that is very expensive. Secondly, the finish seems to be more of a grain enhancement than the standard stuff, which is more labor intensive. This is a very expensive guitar to manufacture.

Re: 5K new Ibanez J custom

I really like the Misty Night version of it. It all comes down to personal taste. But 5k is waaaay too much for that IMO. I also find the neckthrough with a super wizard profile very interesting as well as the ebony fretboard. Is anyone aware of an other neckthrough with a super wizard??

Yes but almost none of their other black guitars have gold hardware, which for me at least is what makes the difference. Black and chrome looks cheap and black on black looks AWFUL.

My Destroyer did, thankfully...

I can't say if it's worth 5 grand but I don't think I would get one for that price. I mean, I spent more on my Fireman but least it was different from anything else Ibanez had put out and in a hardcore limited number.

On another note I dig that J custom, but I could do without the flower on the body...

Re: 5K new Ibanez J custom

Never thought I would say this, but I too prefer the black over the blue! Just wish the neck was satin finish instead of the gloss..

Slightly off-topic, but I just played my friends Edwards E-CY-130D which was neck-thru, but at the neck joint transiition they actually managed to change from a glossy paint on the body to a matt type paint on the neck, felt great!
