The vine on the body is just too gaudy for me, but again, you gotta love that finish. It's like crystallized velvet!

I'm liking this more and more, I just can't get over the fact for $5K you'd want it to be perfect, so it really should have an original Edge

Re: 5K new Ibanez J custom

The price is waaaay out of whack!!!!
$ 2500 or 3K max, seems more reasonable.
What is it they're charging 5K for it? Unless they concider it some sort of collectible item.

Re: 5K new Ibanez J custom

If you bear in mind that a bog standard JEM7V has an RRP of more than $3K, you can start to see where they're coming from. This will no doubt be a limited edition, and if you're into J-customs, quite collectable I guess?

Re: 5K new Ibanez J custom

I got my 8470 for 2k, same specs except the vine on the body. I Have to admit for 2k its a killer ax and well worth the cash, still can't justify the price difference. I mean you can get a custom built guitar with killer specs for alot less than 5K and it will be one of a kind. Although i'm sure there will be folks that will dish out the 5K for this but just not me. Oh well, c'est la vie...

Re: 5K new Ibanez J custom

There's 2 J-Customs in my local store at the moment, and the pricetag says $5495AUD, which is $4743 USD, so it's no big deal to see a $5k J-Custom where i'm from, they all cost $5k.

The black one for me too, if someone else is buying.

Rock on!

I beg to differ - Ebony fretboard, neckthrough, just for starters. And tops of that grade do not come in that price range.

Maple tops like swirls are all about personal preference though.

I get bored with regular, uniform flame even some of the PRS private stocks I've thought were quite poor even though I recognise the quality of the wood is exceptional, I didn't like it. I can't stand "popcorn" quilt either. Me, I love wild figured tops or big tubular quilt. I'd like to see more depth to it, true, but I rather like this top.

Re: 5K new Ibanez J custom

The vine innlay on the body kills that nice guitar...if the vine was not there it would be perfect!

I really like that the Ibanez logo on the headstock is larger than normal...that is something they should consider doing on all their high end guitars...looks better...IMO.

The inlay on the body is the only thing that makes it different from any other "run of the mill" j-custom.

(and the inventor of the oxymoron rests happily in his grave )
