Re: 5K new Ibanez J custom

I know they are very different guitars it was a bit of provocation....

what is true anyway is that the Ibanez "tops" are ridiculously thin!! most other high end brands (Suhr, PRS,..) would call it a veener!!

And paying that price for this guitar is too much!! But I like it!!! I own a J-Custom 8470 so I can say these guitars are great... the 8470 cost me around 2'000 USD at the time I bought it... can you justify 3'000 USD more for this one?

Re: 5K new Ibanez J custom

The tops are 4mm because they have to be formed over the arm contour, unlike the old USAC's that had 1/2"+ tops because they were not formed. How thick is the top on a carved Artist? I don't know, but I'm pretty sure you don't either.......

You've heard of List price, right?

Re: 5K new Ibanez J custom

No, Ibanez Artist's also have a carved top. It's the closest comparable guitar to a PRS and what should be judged against, not some RG top formed over the arm contour.

Re: 5K new Ibanez J custom

That I don't know I admit...

Anyway, I like the black one... One thing I would like to see again on J-Custom is the "old" pickup combo used in 1997: Super III in the bridge and FRED in the neck... (even if you can swap pickups no big deal)...

I think FRED in the neck position of a mahogany guitar is pure heaven I love my RG Gear for that !

Re: 5K new Ibanez J custom

Hi,
Regarding the serial number strating with "D".... I'm no longer sure that this guitar was made by ESP.
I just saw a FUJIGEN stratocaster , the serial number is also starting with 'D'.
So, this 9670Z could be Fujigen product as well....

Can anyone confirm?

Re: 5K new Ibanez J custom

Personal opinion of course, but I think it would look much better without the vines on the body. A bit too cheesy for my liking, perhaps overly gussied-up. Though I do like the body, neck & headstock binding and gold hardware, without the vines the guitar would look very classy IMO.

Have seen much nicer J-Customs however, like the one Rich posted the link to earlier.

And $5K for a guitar with a Chibanez Edge-Zero?!? D'oh!

Yes but almost none of their other black guitars have gold hardware, which for me at least is what makes the difference. Black and chrome looks cheap and black on black looks AWFUL.

Re: 5K new Ibanez J custom

I like it, a lot, but 5k seems steep.
I like the vine on the body-it sort of reminds me of the Gibson ES295 with the dinky flowers on the scratchplate.
I like the groovy go-faster stripe on the back too.

Very cool.

Wow. 5k?! Nice looking guitar aside from all the vine inlays. I like the vine inlay on the fretboard however.

For what it's worth, I agree. But I wouldn't kick it out of the bed.

That wasn't a J-Custom. He was making the point that he'd seen equally beautiful figured tops on less costly guitars.
