Hi James
Rob is right... these guitars are pretty hard to come by. I have one and I must say that I was years looking for one and making offers to the few people I know who had one.
There are 2 different American Masters series guitars and there were 3 models produced.
- MA1 models were made in US by Tak Hoshono company in 1991 and 1992. Neckthru constuction. Mahogany body with flamed or quilted maple top. Edge Bridge and purpleheart neck with rosewood fingerboard and dot inlays. H-S-H configuration with Dimarzios: Paf Pro (N)+ V1 (middle single) + Double Whammy (B). Catalogs says only available in Natural finish.List price for the MA1 in 1990 was 1900 dollars.
- MA2 and MA3 models were made by Richard Gresco at her US quarters in 1989 and 1990. Neckthru constuction. Mahogany body with maple top. Edge bridge and birdseye neck. Rosewood fingerboards with block inlays. Same pickups and availeable in 3 finishes: Cherry sunburst, Trans Blue and Trans Purple. Models MA2 had a listing price of 1300 dollars and MA3 1600 dollars way back in 1990.
Note: MA1 models don´t have the "American Master" logo beside Ibanez brand at the headstock, they show Usa Custom; but MA2 and MA3 are showing "American Master" logo.
And here are the pics of mine wich I bought recently from one english gentleman with the help of my dear bro Dave "DJR" member.
It´s a special American Master becuase its supposed that was a custom order from a directive of Hoshino Japan than later moved to UK for management in mid 90´s. You can realize about the unusual trans purple/violet finish and the low serial #7.
I must say that I´m truly very pleased with guitar in evry point. Previous ownwer replaced the original picks for an old violet Evolution set. I can compare it with my Jem with Evos and this MA guitar sounds completely diffrent as I expect.. sounds darker and more fat and dense.. but the thing amazed me more was his deep dark sound and on the clean tones is sounding completely as a piano.
Hope all this helps James.
Cheers¡¡
