Re: Another new 2009 J-Custom available: RG8420ZE
I just bought one yesterday in Japan. It blew my mind! I had a competition going on with the PGM reissue and this one, but the jcustom really was something else. It is a absolutely maginificent guitar for metal and heavy rock.
simply unbeliableIf you are looking for precise specs, the guitar in question is RG 8420ZE in Purple Amethyst.

I'll say it now, I think theres way too much backlash over things here when they change to the new thing.
Not to mention, the Edge pro never came with locking studs, so how could they POSSIBLY go 'back' to it?

It's not change to something new it's change to something inferior that gets the backlash.
But you're right, the Edge Pro didn't come with the locking studs, but I think the guy who posted that up was saying that that bridge
should
have them if it makes a return.

I'm not saying thats a bad thing, everything should be judged on its own merits, but I see a disproportionate amount of hate for the new bridges tbh, and a majority of it comes from newbie guitar players who have either very limited, or NO experience with the older bridges, and are just parroting the popular opinions.
I've owned original edges, played edge pros heavily while borrowing freinds guitars, and I own a ZR. I can't claim to be completely objective, but in my experience the original Edge isn't reliable compared to the ZR, and the play in the arm holder makes fluttering a pita. My ZR beats the **** out of every other bridge I've ever played, from cheapies to a lot of peoples 'holy grail', the lopro edge/original edge.

That guitar is teh sex.
I think the tree of life inlay looks even better on this guitar than it does on a JEM...

The
J-Custom
vine is a bit nicer than the old school Jem vine to me as well, though the Jem vine design has been around nearly 40 years now.

I actually prefer the Jem vine inlay to the one on jcustoms although that is very nice too.

As beautiful as it is, the J-Custom vine is highly irritating to play at first - very sensory overwhelming. The flame maple neck binding contributes even further to that feeling. It took me a few minutes to get used to it every time, initially.

Re: Another new 2009 J-Custom available: RG8420ZE
The thing is, when I play, I'm looking at the dots at the binding edges, not leaning over and looking at the vines, especially when playing live. Seriously, they shouldn't be getting in your way or confusing one when playing.

Re: Another new 2009 J-Custom available: RG8420ZE
That's the thing. After some time I realized that I anyway only look at the top dots - I also had offset dot guitars for over a decade as main instruments, that must have kinda trained me. I only really noticed that for the first time when I got my J Custom.

What do I think about it? It's an absolutely incredible guitar. I've had a good number of Ibanez guitars and this is in the top three I've played. The EMG's actually sound very nice in it, even though I don't usually go for them at all. I can't get over how immaculate the fretwork on these guitars is.

Just curious what you do not like about the edge zero?

I think I speak for most members here when I say:
Feels cheaper;
Is cheaper made;
Has a ridiculously large back rout and
Looks worse than older trems.
