Re: Any views on Edge Zero Bridge ?

I've tried every Edge tremolo out there (the high end ones, of course).
My personal favourite is the Lo-Pro Edge.

Nevertheless, i don't find differences between the original Edge, the Lo-Pro Edge, the Edge Pro and the Edge Zero, when set up properly.

BTW, Edge Zero WITHOUT the ZPS!

Re: Any views on Edge Zero Bridge ?

I bought an RG3550MZ w/ EZ. After a good setup and changing it to floating, I thought it was a killer trem. I didnt really care for the fine tuners, but it wasnt a big deal. They work fine. One thing I liked about the system is no retainer bar on the headstock.

Yeah...the string tree is pretty much pointless on Ibbys considering the locking nut and tilted headstocks.

I think its there to keep the strings at a consistant height while tuning before you lock the nut down.

I've had guitars with tilted headstocks and locking nuts before without the retainer and the G and B strings would actually sit a little bit higher before you tightened the locking pad, causing tuning problems the second you locked the pad down.

Re: Any views on Edge Zero Bridge ?

Well I sure hope it dont suck too bad, cause I just spent a hefty price on a J-Custom 8420E with active pups. three days til I get it delivered.I like the idea of having some control over blocking it without buying extra gadgets made to be quote universal. I think the little intonation tool thingy is kinda cool, if it really makes any more easy to adjust, It sucks that they dont have the sound chips on the saddle as the E-Pro, That was supposed to be such a state of the art feature then why go back to same ole on a more futuristic trem? I am sure Rich knows exactly what he is saying, Damn the guy has set up many of each model and has seen design flaws/benefits and seen production issues of each. I agree that Ibanez probably wanted to cut costs by avoiding floyd patent fees. I just cannot believe they would be putting these on J Customs if they were not pretty good, they have no intentions of cutting cost on that line as they are made to be exspensive. And are considered by most all Ibanez freaks to be the best workmanship and quality that comes outta the Ibanez factory. I really wanted a yellow one with edge pro and EMG pups . I got a2009, purple amethyst with the zero and EMG's. I wont be a very good player by which to judge by cause I am not a terribly heavy trem user. I use a lot, just not by much octave They will never make a trem that will raise the pitch as accurately as bending the string. It just sounds artificial to me. But the cool sounds and growls make it well worth the tuning issues. I just always said when will someone make a trem that performs flawlessly and enables you to play in any tuning. like drop tunings or up to a E open. I swear by using new tunings when ya start to feel in a rut in one. It is like picking up a new instrument that ya already know how to play the hell out of. Enuff B.S. I will post more here as I learn from mine,I figure a JC should be the right guitar to judge it by as Ibanez puts more effort into them than just a Prestige. WISH ME LUCK. Jason

Re: Any views on Edge Zero Bridge ?

It's a great tremolo. I've got 3 of my J Customs with the Edge Zero and they stay in tune, night after night and when I am in the studio. I've had no issues. When you have them setup properly, they work great! You'll have to disassemble your J-Custom trem from the studs to put the locking studs on (which should be in your case). After that, I added a little bit of a lubricant (in this case, Big Bens nut sauce) around the studs and then set it to the height I wanted. My Edge pro by comparison on my UV777 doesn't stay in tune as well and I have Rich's locking stud mod on there. However, I'm going to add one of those ESP arming adjusters and that should help out a bit, especially when I break a string.

Interesting device.... Please make a thread about that mod when you get there.
