Anyone ever gotten a fretboard changed for their Prestige Ibanez?

Hi,

I'd love to get an Ibanez RGT3120/RGT3020/RG3120 with a maple fretboard so I was thinking about buying one of those models and taking it to a luthier to get the fretboard changed to maple. Anybody ever done something similar?
I already have a RGT3020FMDS but it'd be great to get another with a maple fretboard.


Will it be stable?
I bet it would be a bitch to get the radius correct?
How about the binding?

Any other things to be taken into consideration?

The 3120s did not have binding Jaakko, that is the guitar I would get to try this and it should not be too hard with the right guy doing it.

I mean the older ones btw, the first 3120s.

I was just thinking how much more difficult it'd be on the RGT models.

I changed a finger board once. TO do it properly and professionally, plan on it taking a week if you work in your spare time. Radiusing the board isn't a big deal actually.It's more time consuming to properly shape and blend in the edges.

In other words, there's no such thing as buying a finger board that is cut to size and gluing it on and you're done. But you can buy a pre made finger baord .There are two **** sellers selling good finger boards of various scale lengths. You'll want 25.5" scale.

If you buy a pre slotted finger board, it will be longer and wider than you need.Probably thicker too.IT must be located on the neck and then you'll get an idea of how much material you need to remove. But it is certainly something that a master luthier can do and it wont be cheap.

I would just buy another neck. Most any 24 fret AANJ neck will fit fine and you could save the old neck to put it back to stock if you ever sell it, or just sell the original neck to offset the cost of the replacement.
