Anyone Play the 20th Rg's??

Anyone get a chance to play one.

I did, and they play almost as good as my jem. I love the Edge bridge!!!

They had all 3 at my guitar center. I played the Yellow and the Black one.

Anyone else??

There's been a few people, Azian. All those who got 'em so far say they are great.

Check the review thread in the Other Ibanez Guitars section http://www.jemsite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60756

plus the main RG 20th thread in there (if you can get past the nonsensical babbling!) http://www.jemsite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54938

Re: Anyone Play the 20th Rg's??

I'm sure they are nice. Ibanez CAN build a good guitar.

The thing I find shocking is people complain about the price. Man...if they play as good as they should, it's a STEAL for a brand new RG550. Pretty much a no brainer.

I've seen some pics of the necks and they look pretty impressive. More impressive, visually, than the originals.

Plus, they are 5 pc. titanium reinforced...like some of the J customs have been.

I paid 700 bucks for my 1990 S540ltd 17 years ago and I could have one of those for 200 bucks more... 17 years later. That's crazy pricing. I can't understand the complaints. What a bargain!!!

Well, enjoy em......

Most people will change them anyway...it hardly matters.

Depending on what i think of the pups once i hear them, i'd prefer to keep my 550 stock, if possible.

$899 at GC - they had a DY in Roseville Michigan. I'm not overly impressed. It is what it is - a reissue of something you can find on th**** all day for $300.

I guess the case is really the only thing that is really unique. I'd prefer the refined look of the new Prestiges.

$300? I don't think I've seen one on the Bay for that price.

There's a black 1992 550 on there right now. Has nicks and dings. $695.

Another chipped one, white, currently $355 with 3 days 13 hours to go and 20 bids.

Black RG1550 for $700.

Crappy looking battered 550 for $350, no paint on headstock... non-original bridge.

And so on.

If you found a brand new condition RG550 in DY or RF on the Bay right now, how much do you think it would sell for?

The reissue is superior, especially the neck. Playing one in GC that was probably not set up is no way to get a good idea of this guitar. Show me a pristine Road Flare Red 550 on the Bay for $300. That's if you could even get past the amount of other people looking for them, 20 bids, 30 bids, 40 bids.

Sorry, I am just speaking from my own experience. The last RG550 I bought was an 89, in near mint condition with OHSC and I only paid $175 for it - of course at a pawn shop and not on th****.

If you want to pay $400 for appearance, by all means do so. Check the completed items on th****: $445, $430, $355, $305, $510, $465, $514, $365.

Why not go for a 560, which is the same guitar with a different pickup configuration - throw a hot rail in the neck - $305, $328, $266.

What drives the price up on these used guitars (whether it be Ibanez, Fender or Gibson) is the guys like me - in a mid-life crisis or near middle-aged, finally have enough scratch to buy something we couldn't afford 20 years ago, so we're willing to lay down $500, $899, $2,000 or $3000 to relive our teenage years.

I'm not saying the 20th is a piece of garbage, but I've owned 10+ RG5XX and played at least a dozen more and comparing the 20th to the ones I have played or owned, I'm no more impressed by the 20th anniversary model than any of the originals.

What makes it superior - the basswood body, the black three-ply pickguard, the VX pickups (S Man says most people will repalce them anyways - so add another $65 to the $899) or the original edge trem? The only difference I see is the construction of the neck - but I've yet to buy a RG5XX neck that is trashed even after 20 years.

Bottom line - in my experience, the 20th, while a neat idea with a cool paint job, plays no better than any RG550 since original production.

Precisely.

That's why I will always prefer an original. No contest. With an original, you get the history with it too. Not to mention miles cheaper as well. I have had 5 RG5xx models in the past, 2 being 550's. And none of them have cost me more than £250. Yes, the prices have been driven-up recently though. But the bargains are still out there.
