Anyone seen Justin's new RG Custom?

By Justin i mean Justin Hawkin's from The Darkness.

Now, i'm not a massive fan of the darkness, but when i saw his new custom Ibanez RG in the latest issue of Guitarist, i thought it was amazing.

I can't find a picture of it because it's not on the front of the magazine (it's in one of the interviews) but i thought it was quite interesting considering how he's always using Les Pauls and such. This was quite unexpected. The guitar reminded me of a cross between a swirled Jem, a Petrucci RG and various of those old 80s graphics Ibanez's.

Anyway, if someone can find the image, i would scan it but it's a little late and i figure i'd just post this up while i get the time

..he plays an Ibanez?...I love the Darkness, but haven't paid much attention to their gear. And just today I heard a Gibson rep is coming this weekend to demo some sweet gear, among which is rumoured a Darkeness signature Gibson...hmmmm, I'm gonna check it out anyway!

Well, the interview took place at a Gibson office or something apparently. He must have balls to turn up at the Gibson offices with a custom Ibanez

Here's the scan of it, sorry for quality:

It actually has a lightning bolt cutaway, like the jem monkey handles. I'm not a massive fan of the darkness, but i have to admit this guitar looks sweet

Re: Anyone seen Justin's new RG Custom?

The problem with the Darkness is that a lot of people laugh AT them not WITH them, and I don't think they realise.

I don't like the picture and I don't like the fact he is using an Ibanez. The reason being that it's going to make Ibanez look like a cheesy make of guitar (to the mainstream) and it'll make a lot of people think that Ibanez fans are Darkness fans.

Guys that are into Jackson, ESP, etc. (and I mean fanatics, like we are to Ibanez) are going to have a field day with this...

Thank you Justin, you pot noodle-headed c*nt.

That's a bit harsh!

In fairness, this may actually be good for Ibanez - the guitars just aren't seen on TV much and that one will certainly get noticed.

It may not be the image we would like Ibanez to have, but they are out to sell guitars not pander to our whims.

Of course they realise people laugh at them. The point is that also they're laughing at themselves and more importantly laughing at the public. They were always going to divide opinion, they have a sense of humour and clearly don't give a fook what anyone thinks. I'm not their biggest fan either, but don't mind their music - they're fun. They make me dance when i'm drunk. And come on, the guy has got his own name tattooed on his arm!

And ibanez is a cheesy make of guitar! All of these pathetic mainstream throwback indie bands play sh*t 'vintage' guitars mainly because it wouldn't fit their 'cool' image to be playing a guitar with a pointy headstock (not that that's all ibanez make, of course...). They don't play solos (or anything remotely taxing) for the same reason. Actual technical musical ability in rock music is seen as cheesy - People like Vai and Satch are far cheesier than The Darkness, because they don't seem to realise they look and often sound ridiculous (albeit technically brilliant). I'm not having a go at them, but at least the darkness can play, and are tongue in cheek!

And ESP and Jackson fans? Who cares what they think? In fact, who cares what anyone thinks about your brand of guitar?

I would have more of an issue with people like that dude from Staind and Noodles having signiature ibanezes - because not only are they from rubbish bands, but they're not great players either. It could make it look like any talentless fool can get a signiature ibanez with their name on it.

If all that came across as arguementative and annoying then i'm sorry. i guess it was a bit of a rant

I personally think that RG looks brilliant - finally a full fingerboard inlay that isn't a tree of life! I'd consider buying one if it said 'Jon' instead of 'Justin' on it
