Assess my logic.

Alright, awhile ago I bought an RG 3120 (red) for an extremely good deal with UV case. But I'm scared to really play it all the time and use it because it has a beautiful flame top and seems to be too nice to use. I'm scared of chipping it and doing mods to it because it's so nice. Does think make sense or should I just ignore instinct?

ignore the instinct. you'll never play it if you keep doing what you're doing and you'll just be wasting your money. just keep in the bedroom and don't gig with it if you're afraid of damaging it too much.

Look at EVO. Vai found the perfect axe for him, an irreplaceable instrument, and he still played the crap out of it, in fact, because of it. He loved the guitar so much he used it and used it and used it, and now she's falling apart. Vai said he likes the little scratches and dings cuz it adds character, and memories.

you must play it!

I too have a nice red 3120...but they're a dime a dozen...you can find them anywhere!

don't do any crazy EVH leap and splits and the guitar shouldn't receive any damage... install any modifications that can be undone and have the guitar returned to original state

Buying a guitar and not playing it is dumb. I'd be saying this even if you were talking about a Jem10 or DNA.

Just MHO.

I'd go the other way on this one. If you don't want to play the guitar hard, baby it for a while. There's no harm in it as long as you've got others to play.

If you decide that later on you want to play it to death you can, but you can't decide later to keep it in mint condition

I just got another one (DR) and have had the TW for almost a year. I've figured out that these are going to be the gigging machines. They're the most solid guitar I've ever (well there was the old Travis Bean with the aluminum neck - anyone remember these things?) played.

Go ahead - PLAY it!

Travis Bean? SWEET. What happened to it?

I've got an aluminum necked Kramer (before all the madness) that sustains for days, but the Bean's had a LOT better workmanship.

do what Vai does: beat up your new guitar on purpose so you'd get over with that and start playing it!

Remeber those? I never owned one, but used to always go in a local music store and play the crap out of one!

I think they were an aluminum neck through with mahogony wings.

Always played it through a Lab Series amp - we're talkin '77 or '78?

Yikes.
