Best RG in the Prestige range

What would you say was the best RG currently in the Prestige range (in terms of sound, playability, looks etc.)?

I haven't tried any of the more expensive models (for example the RGT220, which apart from the rank colour scheme looks very impressive), But I would have to say that the 2550 is the best. Sounds great, plays like butter, looks cool and very versatile sounds with that single coil. The RGA321 looks immense too.

Re: Best RG in the Prestige range

I would say the 2550 is the best overall bang for buck, but the best sounding RG's are not made of basswood. RG3120, RGT220A, RGT320, etc. Those are simply awesome guitars. I picked up a 2001 RG3120 in mint condition for $695 (the red one -- rare colour). That guitar is currently on it's way to me, but I almost bought the 2550. The 3120 is a superior axe and it cost less than a new 2550, so maybe consider a second-hand RG from higher up the range if you can find a good one.

My RG3120DR:

Mahogany back with maple top, natural binding, direct-mount Tone Zone & PAF Pro, Lo-Pro Edge, offset abalone dot markers.

You're going to be VERY pleased with that guitar. I have a 98' blue one and it's just fantastic.

Thanks Felipe, that's good to know. I have only ever owned basswood RG's, so I'm looking forward to playing a mahogany & maple bodied one to see how it compares. Cheers!

Well imo the maple veneer's arent that large on most of the models ranging from around 8 to 10 mm isnt much. For those of you looking for mahogany check out the older 520's, original edge trem and mahogany bodys ftw.

I prefer the Lo-Pro, it is a nice middle ground between the Edge and Edge Pro.

I just dont like either of the changes to the edge lineup, but to each his own. Its an eternal argument wanting to happen so ill just stayout of it

Re: Best RG in the Prestige range

I won't argue, it's cool. I have been using the original Edge since 1987, and I do love it, but having played on an Lo-Pro, I like how they kept the same feel but cleaned up the design, it's just an awesome trem. My preference, that's all.

I cant wait till they do an RGT series with an RGA flavour (thin, carved top, Gib2 fixed bridge)

Thats when I buy!
