best strap locks?

I was wondering your opinions on what the best strap lock system is for ibanez guitars. I've had some crappy no-name ones that sucked in the past, and I want to do my new prestige right and get the best. what do you think?

Re: best strap locks?

I have Schallers on all my electrics, but I just saw some Zeppelinns that looked alot like the ones that came with my RG3120 DR, and those weren't bad.

Re: best strap locks?

Since Schallers came stock with my strats, I've been pretty happy with them, so I decided to install them in my Yamaha long ago. I was thinking about trying the dunlops on my JS1000 but, I might just stick with the same thing and get a set of Schallers for the JS. The weird thing about the Schallers is that no 2 sets are alike. I've tried to use the strap for my Yamaha on my strats and it just doesn't want to fit. Same thing happens when I try to use one of my Fender straps on my Yamaha. Weird, huh?

The only guitar I have that came with Dunlops preinstalled is my Ovation Elite. The only problem is that Ovation only put the strap buttons and didn't include the actual locking pieces that go on the strap. I called Ovation a while back and confirmed that Dunlops are what comes preinstalled on their guitars.

I have heard complaints about the Dunlops though. Some people have told me that the buttons for the locking mechanism tend to wear out and corrode after time, rendering the locking mechanism useless. Some people hve told me that while playing on stage, the strap simply got detached from the guitar.

The nice thing about the Schallers is that the button itself is sitting on a u shaped groove and it's locked by the spring on the locking mechanism which is a pulling mechanism, so I guess that adds a little more protection IMO.

You sure about that, I use one strap for 9 guitars and all of them have Schallers. In fact if you are a lucky guy most music stores that deal with Harris-Teller can order just the button that goes on the guitar for you for around $2 so you dont need to drop $20 on a whole set. That's the main reason I stick with the Schallers, most other strap lock systems work fine, but I havent found anyone else that just seels the bottons separate.

It's either the Schaller or the Gotoh strap locks for me.

Yeah Cid, it's really weird. The set I bought at a store and outfitted my Yamaha with will not allow the locking pieces to fit on the the stock Strat buttons (which are Schaller buttons). It's not a big deal though, I have a strap for each guitar. It kind of gives the guitar its own personality.

I do like the Ibanez buttons though. The tops are nice and wide and keep the strap secured just fine. I do recall seeing somewhere that Ibanez used to make straplock systems for guitars a while back.

I bought schallers today for my jem, but I noticed the original screws for the jem were bigger, should I go ahead with the installation anyways????

Will the JEM screws fit? If so, use those.

And there goes post #4,000. Damn, I need a life. Can anyone tell me where I can download one?

Re: best strap locks?

Well if the Schaller screws are secure, use those. If I remember right, I had to use the Schaller ones on my RG550, the Ibanez screws were too wide, and after that the holes widened and went sloppy. Maybe you could put a little bit of sawdust and glue in the holes first just to make sure they stay in securely.

Re: best strap locks?

You have to use the Schaller screws that came with the straplocks. The hole for the strap button can only house a screw that has a small head. I believe the screws Ibanez uses on their guitars are bigger and the heads are wider. Also, the Ibanez screws sit flush on the strap button while the Schaller screws go all the way into the button itself.

Re: best strap locks?

I've been using Dunlop's for years with no issues. They're less bulky than the Schallers.
