Blocking an edge pro?
Hi guys-
I want to block the trem on my rg3120- no "dive-only" or anything, just block it. Love the guitar, but I'm just not a trem guy.
I've blocked strat trems with wood, but the cavity in the rg looks too small. What should I use? Would a tremol-no work? Anything else better?
thanks!

Re: Blocking an edge pro?
Tremol-no will work great at blocking, but its most useful when you're going back and forth between using it/not using it/doing dive-only. If you think you're going to be constantly switching, get the tremol-no. If not, then cut up some wood (or soda bottle caps I hear).

Re: Blocking an edge pro?
yup, just get some small wood blocks or cut them to size & stick them on the front and back of the sustain block. it will never move again

Re: Blocking an edge pro?
Boys,
thanks for the info.
It's nice to be able to ask a question without getting an endless stream of
"you should have bought an agile, dude!"
or "why do you want to block the trem"
or "your guitar sucks" etc.
I appreciate all of your help.

Re: Blocking an edge pro?
Ha!
Actually I was thinking of someplace else . . .
I ended up cutting about 2" of 1/8" X 1/2" metal bar and using that. I slipped the bar into the cavity next to the block and then clamped down the spring claw.
Seems to have worked fine, but I'll check again in the morning!
Thanks again for everyone's help.

This is Jemsite...the relatively intelligent forum
A metal bar? That's interesting...how's the sustain improved? I'd assume more so than wood blocks (especially due to the clamp)

It seems to have added sustain as well as some "zing" on the top end. I took the back cover off again to make sure everything was lined up right, and all is well. I can still dive, but it's stiffer because of screwing in the spring claw. No up-travel at all. I think is going to work out great. I'll post a pic if anyone is interested.
By the way, how do you "quote" on this board?

Re: Blocking an edge pro?
i have one of my jacksons blocked with a peice of wood. best thing i could have ever done
put the trem arm in and dive a little, shove the wood so its touching the body and the trem. it is not on the front of the guitar but in the back. sand or cut down to desired trem angle. tighten the trem screws a little and your good to go. you will NOT regret it if you don't own a
fixed bridge
.
no experience with "tremel-no" or whatever but this has worked for me. i would imagine tone gurus like
eric johnson
would think the extra wood is better than a "still floating but not" bridge. good luck!

Re: Blocking an edge pro?
Guys-
Many thanks for the help!
I blocked with a peice of metal bar (see above) and I am loving the result- stiffer, more sustain, a little more zzzzzzing! I'll always be a
les paul
guy, but damn if this rg isn't a tight second (and my wife gave me the les paul). I like the sound of the trem and springs, I just don't like the floppy feel, so this is working out great.

Re: Blocking an edge pro?
I blocked off my TRS with a tiny block of wood and instead of blocking the other side of the trem, i maxed out all the springs. So technically you could dive but wow would it be a stiff dive.
