Re: buying a rg2550e
well, if you're going to switch the pickups, unless you don't like the colour of the 1570, you might as well get the 1570 and save another £80, since it's the same guitar (only without a pickguard).
but you'd need to try them, the JS has a totally different neck etc.
What amp do you have? and what tones are you after out of the pickups?

+1 to that. I like the look of JS guitars but I do not like how the neck feels at all. You're comparing apples to oranges and need to do a "taste test" to see which one you like.

Re: buying a rg2550e
For shred I reccomend thouroughly the 2550. I have one and I'll stick my neck out and say it's the best sounding and
playing guitar
I've ever played (There again, I've never tried a JEM!). The pickups are really good, you won't need to change them.
Or, as dave_mc stated, you can go for the cheaper 1570, which is basically the same guitar but less flash.
Better going into a music shop and trying both out, see what you prefer.

Re: buying a rg2550e
^ haha
anyway...
(a) unless you're 100% happy with your amp, i'd suggest looking into a new one of those, preferably (i.e. definitely) with valves.
(b) dimarzio are horribly expensive in the UK. You can get swinesheads (handwound, dimarzios aren't) for just over half the price (£45) each, and IMO are better than dimarzios, unless you're after a very specific tone (i.e. if you're in a vai tribute band, you'd want evos, for example, or for a satch tribute band you'd want a fred). And for not much more than dimarzios, you can get bareknuckles, which are generally regarded as being one of the best sets of pickups you can buy, again, unless you're after a very specific tone that you want a specific model from the dimarzio catalogue for.
seeing as how you say you want to play almost everything on that one guitar, I'd say either BK's or SH's are the way to go.
what's your budget? flexible? (i assume so, since you were willing to go for a js1000)

Re: buying a rg2550e
I say get the rg 2550, 24 frets and HSH configuration. I've tried the JS, too "straty" feel. 2550 is much more versatile

^I second that. 1570 is the guitar I'm looking at, and I tried it at a shop and it blew me away. 2550 is the same thing but with DiMarzio/IBZ pups rather than plain ol' IBZ ones is the 1570, and the 2550 has subtler colours and a pickguard, but apart from that they are the same (other than the 1570 being considerably cheaper)

Re: buying a rg2550e
^exactly. I know a few of the guys on here argue that the IBZ/Dimarzio ones are "real" dimarzios, but since the rg1570 is about the amount cheaper that'll buy you your own choice of pickups (rather than the jack of all trades ones on the 2570), unless you're desperate for a pickguard, dislike the colour of the 1570, or are paranoid of changing pickups, you might as well go for the 1570, IMO.
