Comparing necks, Ultra vs Wiz 1 and 2

Hi guys, im lookin at an high end RGT with an ultra neck. Ive owned a few Wizard and Wiz 2 necks ( i prefer the wiz 2 as its thicker) and im curious how the ultra plays into the equation? What is it's feel and profile relative to the Wizards?!

Radii/width/thickeness, and general feel. Any one love it, hate it, or prefer it over the Wizards?!? Thanks for any input!

The ultra neck is thicker then the wizard and same thickness as wizard 2 but feels a lot better imo...

The Ultra neck is noticeably thicker than the Wizard II. I don't really like it though, feels like those fender and gibson necks. I will stick with the wizards.

I was torn between buying a neck thru RGT3020 with an ultra neck profile, and a bolt on RG3120 with the wizard neck. The ultra was definitely more chunky than the wizard. In terms of playability, i prefered the wizard.

OK these are the specs (all in mm):

Width (Nut/24th), Radius, Thickness (1st/12th)

Ultra --- 42/56, 430, 19.5/21.5
Jem ---- 43/56, 430, 19/21
Wizard - 43/56, 430, 17/19
Wizard II 43/56, 400, 19/21

the Ultra is supposedly very close to the original Jem, but the Jem got increasingly more Wizard like. (From the DBK specs on this site: "kind of a Wizard neck at the nut but not at the 12th fret")

You also have to take into account the general shape, luckily for us the names correspond to the shape, so:

Ultra, Viper, Wizard = U-shape, V-shape, W-shape.

What most companies refer to as D-shaped is U-shaped in Ibanez terminology.
The W has a flat bottom, the V a pointy bottom, the U is round.

The Ultra is only a hair thicker than the Wizard II, but will feel differently. I recently tried an RGT3020 and I found the neck way to thick and round for my liking, but according to Rich the neck on the RGT320 is a lot flatter. For comparison, I own a Jem777DY (orig.Jem shape) and a Jem90HAM (Wizard-like)

Re: Comparing necks, Ultra vs Wiz 1 and 2

I've played ibanez guitars with the Ultra, (I believe it was the JPM100s) as well as wizards (Various RGs and PGM series). Measurements and technicalities aside, to me the Ultra neck feels slightly thicker and narrower. The Wizard neck, thinner and wider...especially on those maple fretboard PGMs.

I prefered the Ultra profile, I love having the grip of a thicker neck.

If you have the opportunity to try one out at your location I strongly suggest you do so before making your purchase.

I like the Ultra too, but prefer the wider nut. A JEM would probably be perfect, but I don't like the look, the 24 frets, the body shape, or the cost. I need a bolt-on 22 fret Jem profiled neck..
