Cosmo Black wear and tear
Any body noticed any difference in the wear characteristics of the cosmo black finish on different guitars ?? The trem base where my palm rests and the saddles for the E and A strings on my 2003 J Custom started to become 'Cosmo White' in places pretty quickly, yet my 2005 Prestige shows hardly any sign of wear at all after roughly the same usage. Do they vary from guitar to guitar or is the finish more hardwearing on later models ??? Any ideas guys ??

Re: Cosmo Black wear and tear
I agree, I have a standard black
Edge trem
on my RG450 - its not suffered any kind of wear at all and its 15 years old - on the other hand I have a
custom guitar
that I put together with a lo-pro edge in cosmo and I wore the finish off the area above the low E saddle in 6 months !!!
cosmo finish is crap, I will stick to black in the future !
having said that, I have a chrome lo-pro ready to go on my next project

Re: Cosmo Black wear and tear
Same here, Black Edge still intact after 17 years, Cosmo on an other guitar wore off by the second year of its life and now looks really dated. Don't care much though!

Re: Cosmo Black wear and tear
I've got a second hand cosmo lo-pro, I can say it's a bit worn out around the
low strings
saddles. But nothing that bothers me. The nut is still black, though.
Also, if you're planning on
chrome hardware
on a black guitar, you might get shot
Those things are just wrong.

Re: Cosmo Black wear and tear
Chrome, Black, Cosmo, Gold. In order of how they wear, that's my expieriance.
Some Cosmo wears better than others. I have had 2 Identical new S2170s.
The 1st one held up ALOT better than the second. I think it's a crap shoot.

Re: Cosmo Black wear and tear
Don't really know about cosmo black, but the powder cosmo black on my DNA does look new, although it has been my main player for about a year and a half now. I do wipe it off thoroughly though, each time after I play it, and I do not rest my palm on it

Re: Cosmo Black wear and tear
Cosmo black on my RGA is now Cosmo Silver. Didn't take long at all, I am the first owner direct from Hoshino and in less than two weeks it was changing color.

Re: Cosmo Black wear and tear
I've got a 2005 prestige and the finish on the saddles where i
palm mute
faded away after about 8 months and the volume knob has lost most of its finish after 13 months, the tone knob is faded in places, as is the high e string tuning machine. This is my main guitar though and gets played alot. On the other hand, my 1999 sabre has gloss black hardware and isn't faded at all, but doesn't get anywhere near as much use.

Re: Cosmo Black wear and tear
I'm not a fan of
cosmo hardware
. I have acutally worn the chroming of an EPII down to the base metal, I've also got a guitar awaiting assembly, and the cosmo bridge for that is also slightly tarnishing even without playing it. Regular black seems much more durable.

Re: Cosmo Black wear and tear
I hate straight black (unless it suits the guitar), cosmo isnt my favourite but it looks very good on a black guitar.
My '99 cosmo edge has alot more pitting than my '96 black one too.
