Re: Crooked Prestige

Thats really unfortunate about your guitar. Did you just recently notice this? It's a shame that such a beautiful guitar came with some flaws.

Re: Crooked Prestige

Well kinda....I noticed the pup ring was out. I figured I would just live with that. Later on, I looked a little closer and noticed the trem was out of whack too.

Oh a couple of other things....

The locking nut doesn't have locking washer at the mounting points like my 1990 s540ltd.

I pulled the volume knob off the S2170 and it's plastic inside. Not all metal like the S540. I was wondering why they had a differant "feel" to them. (besides being new)

I'm seriously thinking about buying a S520ex, swap the necks out, put Tone Zone and Air Norton pups in it. (like the J.Customs) Maybe swap some the black hardware with the cosmo black hardware.

Get some locking washers...maybe some all METAL matching knobs.

And.... make my own "Prestige".

Heck the headstock would even match since the S520ex is black.

I saw one, new, for $479.00US, that's pretty cheap.

pre-2003 TopLoks were rear-mounted with bolts. those were supposed to have washers in there (and Rich is right, they almost never are). post-2003 TopLoks are top-mounted with standard wood-screws, which don't need any washers.

Re: Crooked Prestige

Um, Ibanez guitars have a one-year warranty. If there's something wrong with the guitar, it should be fixed under that warranty. Those Guitar Center retards are just giving you horse**** because they want you to go away and not bother them.

Re: Crooked Prestige

EDGE / Lo Pro / Edge Pro knife edges are designed to be removed and replaced. It's not the easiest job but it's not that hard either. I'm constantly removing and grinding curved knives to get more accurate string alignment when called for. Replacement knife edges are also available through some distributors.

Re: Crooked Prestige

I looked at the s520ex I'm not going to make a Frankenstige. Though I thought about getting one to replace the prestige while it's being worked on/replaced.

I just can't get into that lions claw/whatever inlay. It is ***. Sorry...

I certainly hope they are replaceable. It'd be a shame to have to replace the entire trem when the knife edges wear too far.

Well they offered to send it back to Ibanez. I was contemplating whether it would be worth it. I mean, who knows what they would do when I send it back. How can you fix that? It really needs to be replaced. So do I send the guitar out and have Ibanez do what, if anything? It's not like they are going to call me up and say... what seems to be the problem Mr. S-man? I'm afraid they would look at and say, oh that meets spec... or they try to repair it and make it worse than before. Perhaps there would then be a new problem. Additionally, my guitar is one of thousand (I'm sure) they get back. I don't think they have a special prestige repair facility. It would just be with all the regular stuff. My guess is that if it were repaired, there would be some cosmetic damage from handling, repair and shipping. I'm still working with the guitar center people to resolve this. I'm going to try to meet the local Ibanez rep, through Guitar Center.

Ideally I want is this...

Order me a new guitar. Let me keep the one I have until the new one comes in. I pick up the new guitar and give the defective guitar back to Guitar Center.

Then I'd be happy. Wish me Luck. I should know something soon.

Re: Crooked Prestige

Oh...this is why I bought the guitar from guitar center. So if there was a problem I could go back and talk to someone face to face. They aren't any guitar shops local to me. The ones that are around ..aren't really any better than guitar center. No one stocks the guitar locally.

And yes I realize guitar center isn't always known for thier knowledgable, customer friendly, staff.

If I bought the guitar online I suspect I'd really have problems, which is why I didn't. The only place online I would purchase a guitar is from Rich.

I doubt Rich would be interested in dealing with a S series guitar. I'm thinking Korean Prestiges aren't his thing. I could be wrong. I never asked.

I bought this S because I have the old one that has been great. I thought it would be cool to have a prestige replacement for it. I have been thinking about semi-retiring the old s540ltd. After 16 years there is a good amount of fret wear, etc.

Long story short...this is what happened.

Order me a new guitar. Let me keep the one I have until the new one comes in. I pick up the new guitar and give the defective guitar back to Guitar Center.

So I'm happy

Fret replacement on your s540, sometimes its just time to do that. If you had bought from Rich you wouldnt have these issues now i can guaranatee that. HIs eye for detail far outways the pimply faced kids you find at guitar center!.
