Thanks Rich, I'm guessing CA = clear acrylic?. Not something I've done before so I'd have a have a practice first (if anyone wants to let me practice on their guitars feel free to get in touch

cyanoacrylate. "super glue" formulas more condusive to this type of fill than super glue would be.

Ah ,ok. Quick Google search later.....interesting stuff, would you recommend the thicker gel rather than the liquid as it has a longer curing time?

Water thin, hardner, and plenty of practice on junk before you even think about going near the scratches.

Man, the more I think about this it just seems like string scratches are not worth fixing on a guitar that you plan on playing.... Not that you shouldn't be mad im just saying think about this for a minute.

I played my R non stop for 10 years and put 0 string scratches on the headstock. A guitar played a lot doesn't mean it has to be abused. If it picks up a ding here or there that's part of life, but some of these damaged guitars I see I have to wonder how drunk the operator was, or how little they cared if they damaged it that badly. Many people actually care about the things they own and would prefer to keep them in nice condition.

Re: Damage by Luthier - is this the norm?
ok, one little, and I stress LITTLE,
scratch
and you could forgive the guy ( even then, alittle care and it shouldn't happen, but sometimes does ). What you have there is an abortion. I feel your pain. The sad thing is as great as that guitar sounds, everytime you pick it up, you'll see and think about those scratches. That's vicious. We expect that Luthiers should be at least as passionate about guitars as we are.
When I take my guitars in I am always worried deep inside that something like this will happen............... and my
Luthier
is great and I'm still worried. Do what you gotta do but don't let him away with it.

That's the problem at the moment and makes me mad every time I look at it. If I'd have caused it I'd be annoyed but could live with it. It's the fact that someone else has done it that winding me up more because it shows a lack of respect.
I've put my case back to him and asked for a refund so I can cover repair costs. I'll let you all know what happens when I hear back.
Thanks again for the support.
Cheers,
Carl

I thought this but did not want to say it just in case the thought hadn't actually crept into your head yet.
I think asking for a refund is fair. I get po'd at myself for a ding, I could not imagine if someone else did it!!!!

I know man, but it's done now. Is it really worth the risk of screwing it up even further?

Re: Damage by Luthier - is this the norm?
I had a similar issue.....not lots of "luthiers" where i live, so i took my 570 (yeahh its not a jem but it was my baby) to a guy that lives 400 miles away in a job trip.
he was supposed to level the frets and, altough my guitar was 5 years old at the time, i can tell you it had NOT EVEN A MINOR SCRATCH ON IT.....the guy did the fret level work (not impresive) but at the same time scratch all the fretboard and put lots of dings on the front and the back of the guitar.....
when i received the guitar in my companys office in that city i couldnīt believe it....i was so pissed off that almost punched the guy that bring it to me (some guy that worked with the "luthier")....sadly i have paid when i took the guitar to his shop so i also lose the money....
from that day i decided to do all works on the guitar by myself. only thing i didnt do was electronics but fortunately iīm doing it now.
dont really know what iīm going to do when one of my guitars needs a refret work on it.....iīll have to learn
