difference between 1570 and 1550

i know that the 50 has a pickguard and the 70 doesnt, is there anyway to easily put a pickguard on the 1570?

no that pretty much answers it. so there's basicly no difference other than the pickguard?

Re: difference between 1570 and 1550

thing to bear in mind is that you may need a pickguard with a wider slot for your 5-way switch and also allows for your body-mounted nuts (fnarr fnarr). if you take a look at 77fp guard, you'll get the idea.

You also know that a 1550 is front routed and the 1570 is rear routed, right?
That the biggest difference.

so what exactly do they mean then?

Re: difference between 1570 and 1550

that's all it means. front routed guitars have a pickguard to hide the routing and to mount the electronics. rear routed guitars have body mounted electronics and cavity/control covers on the rear of the body.

the difference with the pickguards you would use for the two arises from the fact that with a rear routed body, the nuts etc. are already mounted to the body. also, the 5-way switch would run out of travel without an enlarged opening.

have a good look at the way a 77fp pickguard works.

Re: difference between 1570 and 1550

Jeannie Pickguards call the pickguards designed to fit over controls "hy-bread" and they work great. Pickguard Paradise also carries them. So yes if you want a pickguard you can get one pretty easily and pretty cheap. And the 77fp is a good place to start as is "Flo", Steve's now main axe on the stage. She has a Fit Over pickguard. See the pics on this site's gallery.
