DiMarzio IBZ VS Real DiMarzio

How does DiMarzio IBZ compare to the actual DiMarzio pickups? I just bought a Prestige 2550egk last night and the pickups are the best I have ever used, I never used real pickups, I allways played with stock pickups from non prestige Ibanez and EMGHZ. I love the DiMarzio IBZ, are real DiMarzio's better then this?

Not better, just different. You may prefer a "real" Dimarzio model in a certain guitar, but it's a taste call; the quality is all there.

Re: DiMarzio IBZ VS Real DiMarzio

They are "real" DiMarzios made in the same US plant by the same people and machines that make the "real" DiMarzios. Just think of them as a different model. I think the bridge is supposed to be similar to a Super Distortion with more mids or something, don't remember what the neck is similar to. You might find the info on the faq page at www.dimarzio.com.

Re: DiMarzio IBZ VS Real DiMarzio

Since Dimarzio makes them then they are every bit as good of quality as any other Dimarzio pickups...they are just different models. You'll hear about people on this site changing out Dimarzios for other Dimarzios simply because they haven't found a sound that's perfect for them yet but if you like what you have in your guitar then I would say to leave it be.

I have Dimarzio IBZUSAF1, C2, F2 in my 1990 s540ltd. They always sounded good. Never changed them in 16 yrs. I just got a 2006 s2170 with Dimarzio IBZ's. They sound even better. I am suprised. They are staying in. As you know, it's personal preferance.

Re: DiMarzio IBZ VS Real DiMarzio

i tried them head to head with a j-custom, and i vastly preferred the j-custom's pickups (tone zone, Blue velvet and air norton)- but as already stated, that could've been because they were just a different model.

I've heard a lot of other people say they don't like them either, though, and prefer "real" dimarzios...

head to head with a j custom is a losing place for the ibz each time i would say , they are weak compared to the jems to but hold there own pretty good. i did post how they shaped ages ago but cant remember where

found it

Re: DiMarzio IBZ VS Real DiMarzio

The new RGT320QRBB I got the other day has the Dimarzio/IBZ pickups and they sound pretty decent. I still haven't decided if I am going to swap them out yet. But they sound comparable in quality to my PGM301 and Jem7vwh's pickups. I have a tone zone and a air norton in my 7 but that's not good comparison.

Re: DiMarzio IBZ VS Real DiMarzio

They ain't bad, but I never found the Dimarzio/IBZ to be better than the real Dimarzio's. Ibanez would have never contracted Dimarzio to OEM pickups for them if the Dimarzio/IBZ pickups weren't just cheaper pickups.

(They ain't bad, but quite frankly I would have bought a new RG3120 if it still came with the Tone Zone/Paf combo)

Re: DiMarzio IBZ VS Real DiMarzio

The DiMarzio®/IBZ pickups are specifically designed and manufactured by DiMarzio® for Ibanez, and they are not available separately. Like all DiMarzio® pickups, they are made in our New York factory. Both neck and bridge pickups are high-output models. The neck pickup is fairly bright-sounding, similar to a Super 2™ (DP104). The bridge pickup is a little louder and warmer-sounding, and resembles a cross between the Steve Morse Bridge Model™ (DP200) and the Super Distortion® (DP100). The R1 single-coil is warmer-sounding than a typical vintage single-coil, and was designed to work well with the neck and bridge humbuckers when they are in split mode. It has a sound similar to that of the HS-2™ in split-coil mode.

post some pics of that beauty! i love the RGT320 - the price is what kills me.

i just got an SZ520 and it has Seymour/IBZ pups and they are staying in it. i played the SZ4020 and those are great as well. i guess i am saying what has been said, some stock pups are great and every bit as good as aftermarket - just different tones. i could be completely wrong but, Dimarzio probably makes the Ibanez stock pups for them - at least it wouldn't suprise me if they did. older stock Ibanez pups (USA models) were fairly toneful pups. not sure what happened when they "downgraded" to V7, V8 and other similars that usually get swapped out with MOST players.

Re: DiMarzio IBZ VS Real DiMarzio

^to be fair, he just copied and pasted it from the dimarzio site (i.e. it'll be biased, lol)- i know a lot of people (inc. me) think the dimarzio/ibz pickups aren't as good as "real" dimarzios, although as i've already said, that could be just because they're based on a model I might not like.
