Do ALL RG's have some version of the Wizard neck?

I know it may seem like a dumb question but...I have had a bunch of RG's and the neck and I just never got along. It's too thin.

Do any RG's not have the Wizard neck?

I'm trying to figure out why I love my '90 540R neck so much.

Does the 1MM (nut) and 1 1/2MM (12th) make THAT much of a difference?

The specs are:

540R

Width-42MM Width at nut, 56MM at 22nd
Thickness-19MM at 1st, 21.5MM at 12th


The specs on the new premium neck which has the same construction and thickness of the Prestige is:

Scale/Length 648mm/25.5"
a: Width at Nut 43mm
b: Width Last Fret 58mm
c: Thickness 1st Fret 18mm
d: Thickness 12th Fret 20mm
Radius 400mm

A few have the Ultra necks, one that springs to mind is the RG2820CT (Ultra Prestige). There are also J Custom RG's that have the Ultra neck profiles as well as the J Custom neck profile.

Wouldn't there be earlier Roadstar models as well that didn't have the Wizard necks on them??

Even though they *kind of* share the same name I wouldn't consider the old pre-Jem era Roadstars the same guitar. IMO, they're a different animal completely.

There has been at least three different versions of the Wizard neck. Some properly named Wizard II and such, but the one named Wizard also changed from one era to the next.

In my searches, I saw that the JPM also had a Ultra neck. I've always lusted for one of those due to the other specs like the control layout, pickups, left side dots, aesthetics and now the neck. I think my favorite is the P3 with the white and black but i love the 90th is downright gorgeous.

I like the RG2820 too, thanks for that, didn't know it had the ultra neck too!!

2820s are realy sweet guitars with vine inlays i'd still prefer the old super wizard necks though

Yeah there have been some Ultra's,but always a 43mm nut(unlike the 42mm/ultras found on the 540R).

i feel the same.

i love my j custom necks..the 19.5-21.5 ones.

i just couldnt get used to the original wizard necks, way too thin for me.
