Do you prefer 'brand name' DiMarzios or DiMarzio/ IBZ pickups?

Whatever your choice, don't argue about it in this thread. Argue about it in the "Did Ibanez cheap out with their stock pickups" thread. Just choose whichever option you prefer and, if you want to discuss it, use the other thread.

The question:

Do you prefer 'brand name' DiMarzio pickups (such as Tone Zone, PAF, Steve's Special, Air Norton, etc.) or do you prefer the DiMarzio/ Ibanez pickups that have been coming stock on the higher end Prestiges for the last couple of years or so?

For the J. Custom people: your guitars come equipped with the 'real' DiMarzios -- if you have played a Prestige that comes with the DiMarzio/ IBZ pickups, would you rip out the 'real' DiMarzios your J. Custom came with and install the DiMarzio/ IBZ pickups instead?

The real deal... For me..

usually PAF Pros.. I have had them in most of my guitars.

Not to start an argument, but I couldn't care less. If I don't like a pickup, I change it. This is so stupid and childish.

IBZ sounds almost identical to a PAF Pro, apparently.

And this poll is NOTHING BUT OPINION. So exactly how is that supposed to help make your case that Ibanez cheapened thier guitars by having Dimarzio make a different pickup?!?!

That's like punching someone in the face and saying, "NOT TO START A FIGHT." And, it's not a silly argument. If you're not interested in it, fine, then just stay out of it.

And, BTW, since we've already gone into the realm of discussion, if the PAF and DiM/IBZ pickups are the same, then why didn't they just install PAF's on the Prestiges instead of MAKING AN ENTIRELY NEW PICKUP?

For me its not a question of brand name, its more a question of I know roughly what to expect of a TZ, Evo, Fred, or whatever in a given body wood(s) because I have used them in the past. I have no objection to OEM IBZ/Dimarzio's in anything if I like the sound of them. If I dont, I yank them and stick what I suspect by model/brand name will compliment the guitar more effectively. I dont limit myself to Dimarzio either, I have stuff from several different pickup manufacturers.

My oldest "pro" guitar is/was a Kramer Pacer from way back. It had a very good pickup in its poplar body that I thought at the time was a no name brand. When Vai came out, and I heard he was using PAF Pro's, I jumped on the wagon and bought one. After installing it I thought it was ok but kinda "blah" in a poplar body so I stuck the "noname" pickup back in. Years later after I learned to read the backs of pickups, I learned it was a OEM Duncan JB. Lesson learned at that point - if it sounds good dont F with it.

Why don't you ask Ibanez? I am not Ibanez, I cannot answer why they make the moves that they do.

1. The poll was not loaded because I worded it perfectly fairly and objectively.

2. No one ever said they weren't real DiMarzios.

3. The poll is evidence that, so far, most people PREFER BRAND NAME DIMARZIOS THAT WERE ALREADY IN PRODUCTION and INSTALLED AS STOCK PICKUPS on previous Ibanez models and that the argument that "Ibanez wanted to cater to a broader spectrum of people" is ridiculous and holds absolutely no water. So far, most people a) don't prefer the DiM/IBZ pickups and b) wouldn't rip out the brand name models to replace them with the DiM/IBZ pickups.

Apparently you didn't see the 'quotes' I put over 'real' in the first comment. Obviously, my use of the word 'real' was to distinguish between those DiMarzio pickups and the DiMarzio/ IBZ pickups.
