Re: Does the Vine affect tone?
Of course it changes the tone.
I envy the ignorant. Every guitar, no matter what it's made of, sounds great. Maybe more cerumen is the way to go.

Re: Does the Vine affect tone?
Believe it or not, it can't help but affects - vibrating characteristics of abalone aren't equal to those of wood, and these unlucky fretboards have quite a large chunk of wood cut away.

Shame these aren't J customs. They don't seem to have titanium rods either.

Re: Does the Vine affect tone?
They have them.
If the $800 RG1570 has it, then these $1500+ Prestige models have them.

Maybe the abalone sounds BETTER than the wood!!!
That's why it's reserved for only the top flight guitars!!!
I'd also wager, that if your ears can detect a difference in tone that was
solely
due to the presence of a vine inlay over normal offset dots of the same material, either you're not playing with enough gain, or you simply haven't done enough gigs to pay your dues and damage your hearing.
If you're still having trouble navigating the fretboard because of a vine, not only have you not done enough gigs, but you've not practised enough either!
