Double Edge Bridges

So, I missed out on getting a pretty good deal on a S2020XAV for $500. It looks like the only way I'm going to get a double edge bridge is on **** for $479?

is there any other way to get this bridge?

Of course Ibanez won't sell it. But what about if you had the serial # to a guitar that is supposed to have the bridge, and needed a replacement?

And how possible would it be to get the LR Baggs saddles and put them into a regular edge pro bridge?

any help would be appreciated.

thanks!

Re: Double Edge Bridges

You can't get the saddles from anyone but Ibanez (LR Baggs sends them the piezo elements and the electronics), and Ibanez won't sell them to the general public that I know of. They will provide replacements, but I'm sure you'd have to send in the bad saddle(s) to get new ones.

Re: Double Edge Bridges

Someone at LR Baggs told me that the saddles are the same ones that are in their X-Bridge, and I'm guessing that you can order just the sensors/saddles from an authorized LR Baggs dealer.

the problem is recreating the double edge bridge as a whole. basically the wiring and electronics, from pictures i've seen of just the double edge bridge (on ****), it looks like there is some sort of buffer circuit that is mounted right on the trem block.

Re: Double Edge Bridges

Hmm. LR Baggs told me different info. Oh well, the end result is the same.

I don't know if it's the same one, but I bought an S2020XAV **** for $550 (shipped from NJ) a couple of weeks ago. Such a shame that Ibanez spent the money developing the technology and doesn't wish to sell it separately. Even if they did, I wouldn't be surprised to see it retail for $500 anyway.

Re: Double Edge Bridges

I believe what is the same on the X bridge & the double edge are the individual piezo sensors which get mounted on the saddle. They do look exactly the same from looking at the pictures on the baggs website, but obviously are mounted on very different saddles.

I don't know how easy it would be to adapt, but even a double edge has different saddles than a standard LoPro so somewhere along the process of creating the double edge it was decided to use a saddle specific to that application. I going with the assumption if they could figure out how to do it using pre-existing parts they would have done so to save the cost of designing & manufacturing a new part. (yeah I know what can happen when one assumes)

I'm actually pretty disappointed with my double edge. The piezo sensors are choking the strings & killing sustain dramatically. I have not spent a lot of time checking the situation out yet other than trying to clean the area of the piezo sensors the strings ride on, which did seem to help a very little bit. It is like the piezo sensors are not mounted to the edge pro saddle very well & do not transfer the energy of the string through the guitarl.

Since I have not properly investigated the situation yet it may be a common issue with a known fix for all I know....

they are the same, i have an rg2120x and i dropped the x-bridge into my robin ranger because i dug the piezo so much...especially the lr baggs. the piezo elements are the same btween models.
