DS/AN in a 3120 anyone?

Hey everyone, I just bought another RG3120 a few days ago (had one a while back and foolishly sold it). When I saw this one I had to snag it. I'm not a fan of the Tone Zone at all and it seems like the previous owner put what looks to be an evolution in the neck.

I ordered new pickups which I'm having put in on Saturday. I got a DS/AN combo. To any of you that own the 3120, have you tried that combination in the 3120? If so, how did it sound? I'm hoping that by putting the DS/AN in that the tone isn't going to be muddy like it is now.

It should sound great with that combo. I had it on my previous EBMM guitars and have used in on a neck through Prestige in the past. While I'm not as much a fan of the D-Sonic, it sounded nice on those guitars. Air Norton I don't like but that is just to my ears. Others love it. When I grab an RRG6 in the next couple of months, I going to go with a Steve's Special in the bridge and a PAF Joe in the neck.

Yeah, I'm having them put in Saturday. I really hope it sounds good. How do you think a Steve's Special would sound in the bridge of the 3120? I'm playing through a Mark IV half stack by the way.

A SS will sound better in my opinion, being as the 3120 already sounds massively fat and middy (not muddy, middy!)... Still, the D-Sonic with the bar towards the bridge should be cool enough...

The AN, i dont know, maybe it could be TOO thick, but i have never tried it in mahogany (yet!)...

Hmm...I had an Ernie Ball BFR JP that was mahogany, alder, and quilted maple and that had the DS/modified AN combo in it and it sounded great. The bar was away from the bridge too. I remember when I had my old RG3120, I tried a Steve's Special in the bridge and it was very muddy, but then again I was playing through a Dual Rec, now I'm using the Mark IV. I guess I'll just have to try some stuff out. If I don't like the D-Sonic in the 3120, I'll give the SS another go. Thats what I love about DiMarzio's return policy.
