Edge pro trem studs won't turn?

Hey all!

I recently purchased an RG1570 Prestige which I got back yesterday after a full set up. I asked for the action to be set really low, get a fret dress etc...
However, after bringing it back home I was pretty disappointed to find out that the action was a lot higher than I expected (a clearance of around 3mm on the 12th fret, low E string).

So I went about trying to lower the bridge, but even with a fairly large amount of force applied, the trem studs (screws?) won't budge :/
Am I doing anything wrong/is there anything else i have to do before turning the studs?

Also, if i do manage to bring the action down to about 1.8 mm at the 12th, will that mess up the intonation and bridge angle?

does the guitar have a locking stud mod?

Is the stud 3mm or 4mm Allen?

Ah i'm not sure actually. How do i find out if it's a locking stud and if it's 3 or 4mm? This is my second guitar and the first one with a floating bridge...and i'm still very confused :/

3mm.

The bridge looks as low as it goes. Your problem is going to be in the neck pocket, which would be very strange if it needs a neck shim, EP guitars typically never do.

on a side note... is that guitar intonated? look at the saddles pattern, it's a straight row!

hmm yeah...looks like it was a pretty mediocre set up. Wasn't even completely in tune when i got it back (all strings were too sharp). It was a free set-up because i bought the guitar from that store...was supposed to cost 100 bucks apparently

Better take it back tomorrow then.

I needed to put a shim in the neck pocket of my Jem to get the action as I liked it, so you may need to do the same.
Is the neck pretty straight or does it have a noticable "bow" to it, as that will effect the action? Check the space between the strings and the frets while holding the string on the first and last fret. there should be a small gap.

Yup I just checked and there's about a 0.8mm gap at the 9th fret.

Yeah, difficult to tell from pictures, if the second picture is with the string pressed against the first and last frets then maybe the truss rod needs tightening... a bit...

Yeah true. Nope, the strings aren't pressed in the second picture, they're open.
Guess i need to get it shimmed then.
Probably going to take it back to the store and get them to do it, i'm too afraid that i'll mess things up :/

looks to me like you have a pretty HUGE bow in your neck so its curving towards the fretboard, making the headstock lift and thus giving you such a big action at the 12th fret even on open strings.

Get a good tech to look at it and fiddle with the truss rod etc
