Help! Advise me on an RG!

I'm looking at several prestiges. Which trem is the best? I know it's subjective, but which trem is the best out of an original edge or a lo pro edge?
Also, which years are the best? One of the RG's im looking at(rg548-ash bodied)is from 1997, and i can just about afford it- shall i make the jump? I played an rg1570 in a shop (the new one with a mirage red colour) and loved the feel of the neck, so would the older rg be about the same?
Help much appreciated- im pretty low on money at the moment and need to make the right choice!
Thanks

"Best" is subjective. The original edge or lo-pro are probably the most favored around these parts. Do a search, there's lots of banter already here.

Re: Help! Advise me on an RG!

I personally LOVE the look and feel of the Edge Pro. I have played guitars with the Original Edge and the Lo-Pro edge and while they were nice, I still like the Edge Pro better. So I would say to not be afraid of buying any of the current Prestige Ibanez guitars because they are excellent instruments.

But if money's an issue then used is generally the way to go. The neck on a pre-2003 RG neck will feel different than the current Prestige line but it should still be very comfortable. But if you have doubts, then go with what you've actually tried.

Pick up an RG550 or RG570 man. There are many great deals out there, and plus, you have something that is no longer in production, which that is pretty cool.

RG 548 has wizard II type neck, 2mm thicker than original wizard.
RG 1570 however has the wizard neck.

You love the feel of wizard, you won't find it in 548.
but the tone and quality of wood material in 548 is different story.
have you played the 548 before? how do you feel the sound? do you like it or not? I suggest try the 548 first, if you don't like it you can easily find the 1570.
1570 is still in production, so it's not difficult to find one, but 548 is discontinued model and not available in anywhere else in the world except in europe, so it's pretty rare.
