Help Me Decide RG Vs.......

I am looking to trade in a ESP Explorer for a new different guitar. I play a (or try to play) instrumental, shred, and metal. I already have a JEM and a RGA121 which I really like.

I also like the tone of strat type guitars and am considering a G&L strat. The other option is a RG either a 550, 1550, something with a pickguard. What do you think, do I stick with what I like but have simuilar guitars or get something different?

find your self an ibanez rg750 better than the 550 imo not only becuase of the sharktooth inlay but the neck finish that they put on here in the U.S
my main guitar over my prestige rg3120,
and for some stupid reason are cheaper than the 550 from what ive seen.

If you already have a JEM, then get yourself a nice strat.

Yeah, get a G&L. They are great. Since you already have an JEM, you don't need another Ibanez HSH guitar (just yet )

If you get an RG, get something with a body made of something other than basswood. RG3120 is amazing, I just got mine today (2001 model).

Re: Help Me Decide RG Vs.......

they really are a differnt feel from your other rgs
do what dee said
they have great color choices to
and the low pro edge which i think is something you dont have based on your rgs

I can't believe the difference between my old basswood RG's and my new mahogany/maple top RG. No comparison! At all! My basswood RG feels like balsa wood or something... my new one feels more substantial like a Les Paul or something, only way more playable!

well its nowere near as heavy as my 78 paul but i doo see what you mean as the width of the neck is actualliy similar- i really like it a lot
also my 3120 is my heaviest rg to
but it gives it a more solid like feel

Re: Help Me Decide RG Vs.......

If you want something with a pickguard and aiming for something like a G&L which is the same guy that worked and left Fender. But your looking for that sound, tone, either way, personally I wouldn't choose an G&L. I don't like the trem's, there bulky and in the way, I just simply don't like them.
Andre's suggestion in my opinion, is by far the best one, GET A CARVIN!!!
They really can't be beat, for the quality, price, options, you can't go wrong!
